Stay in the old mediaeval stables from the c1200s, converted to a cottage c1910 and recently renovated, Rowley Cottage is sited at the heart of one of the most beautiful villages in the UK & Ireland (Conde Nast Traveller 2023) With 3 bedrooms (all en-suite) this comfortable cottage is the perfect rural retreat & ideal to explore Bath, Cotswolds, Somerset & Stonehenge from. Please note the cottage is not suitable for young children (under 10) or pets. The space Packed with plenty of historic character, Rowley Cottage at Iford Manor is set on the Southernmost hill of The Cotswolds AONB in a tranquil and unspoilt valley. Originally stables from the 1200s, then converted into a cottage c.1910 and newly renovated in 2021 it makes the perfect, comfortable place to either explore everything nearby across Somerset, Wiltshire and Bath; or simply retreat here for a few days to escape the world! PLEASE NOTE THIS PROPERTY IS NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 10. Although self-catering, guests benefit from next door Iford Manor Kitchen, with its own café & bakery on site, as well as a restaurant. Note the opening days & times change throughout the year so please check their website for opening hours. Perfect for your morning coffee and freshly baked pastry! Whilst not typically open in the evenings, our restaurant does host regular Friday evening supper clubs, pizza nights and food workshops so do check out 'what's on' on the Iford website and plan your visit accordingly. Guests also enjoy access to the world-famous, Grade I registered, Iford Manor Gardens from dusk until 4pm each day during your stay (even when closed to the public). You also have a small, south-facing patio garden of your own, with seating area and BBQ. Perfect for watching the abundant local wildlife (bats, owls etc), or stargazing on a clear night. A few short steps from the front gate and you will be on the famous Iford Manor bridge (as featured in ITV's Sanditon, 2019) overlooking the River Frome. Very quiet in the evenings you can regularly spot otters, beavers, herons, swans, kingfishers, egrets and more whilst sat there. There are many wonderful pubs and restaurants close to us. Either a short drive away, or you can walk (30mins) to The New Inn at Westwood, or The Inn at Freshford. The Iford Cider Taphouse serving homemade pizzas and our ciders (and other drinks) is a short walk away and open at certain times of the year. With 3 miles of footpaths through the Iford Manor Estate you can easily reach Westwood Manor (NT), Farleigh Castle (English Heritage), the stunning villages of Avoncliff and Freshford, or even walk as far as Bradford on Avon. Hop in your car to easily reach Bath, Frome, Bruton, Lacock, Stonehenge and many other nearby places to explore. Ground Floor - Mediaeval style entrance porch with bench-seats; - Small hallway leads to dining room, stairs & living room; - Living room with 2 x Chesterfield sofas, 1 x sofa and 2 x chairs with TV, DVD player, coffee table and gas fire place (DVD and book library included); - Dining room with 6 x chairs, dining table and back door into Iford Manor Gardens; - Fully equipped kitchen; - Small boot room by stable door exit (perfect for entering and leaving for walks); and - Downstairs WC & basin. Upper Floor - Steep spiral staircase to upper floor landing; - Bedroom 3 with Super King bed, Hypnos mattress, Egyptian cotton linen, choice of pillows, side tables, wardrobe, desk & chair, comfy chair and en-suite bathroom with shower over bath, WC & basin; - Bedroom 2 with King size bed, Hypnos mattress, Egyptian cotton linen, choice of pillows, side tables, large wardrobe and shelves, shower and en-suite WC & basin; and - Bedroom/ Suite 3 with Super King Size bed, Hypnos mattress, Egyptian cotton linen, choice of pillows, side tables, desk & chair, comfy chair, wardrobe, en-suite shower over bath, WC & basin. Guest access Access to Iford is via steep, single track roads with passing places. From the A36, turn off to Iford (signposted to Iford & Iford Manor). Follow the lane a mile down the road and you will know you have arrived when you reach the bridge at the bottom, opposite Iford Manor. Park in the visitor car park next to the bridge. From Bradford on Avon, turn off the B3109 into Westwood (follow brown signs to Iford Manor). After leaving the village and its 20mph zone, the road bends to the right. Turn left down the little lane and follow it to the bridge at the bottom. Park in the visitor car park next to the bridge. The Iford Manor visitor car park entrance is opposite the front entrance to Rowley Cottage, so just a few steps from your own private front gate. Rowley Cottage and its front garden are for your exclusive use only. However, step outside its back door and you are in Iford Manor's courtyard. From there you can easily access its Grade 1 listed gardens from sunrise until 4pm each day. Iford Manor Gardens is shared at all times with us as a family and the team that work here.
