Bespoke ‘off grid’ Shepherds huts located in idyllic surroundings on the banks of unspoilt Loch Ken, SW Scotland Enjoy the simple pleasures of slow living in our eco-friendly huts, watch the sunset over the loch from the deck or outdoor fire pit at the edge of the loch. A romantic getaway or rural escape, in a beautiful secluded spot where you can star gaze under our dark sky. Private bathroom. The space Our Shepherds hut is situated on the shore of Loch Ken, in your own private field, with views over the Galloway Forest Park in a unique UNESCO biosphere and dark sky location. We provide a break from a hectic world, but can also cater for the more adventurous, with a water sports marina and the Galloway activity centre only a mile away. Enjoy the evening sun from the decking or loch side, with wildlife to spot - herons, wild ducks, deer, hedgehogs, red squirrels, owls, otters (dawn & dusk if you’re lucky!) and red kites to name a few. Inside, our pot belly stove not only keeps you snug but can be used for cooking -use the top as a hot plate for making that perfect cup of coffee in the coffee pot provided or save the hot water for later using the large Thermos flask provided. For warmer days there is an outdoor fire pit beside the hut or light the one down at the water's edge ( other cooking options include charcoal bbq, gas camping ring or enjoy a meal at the award-winning Clachan Inn 5 miles away). As the nights draw in you can light the stove, close the shutters, turn on the Led lamps and climb into the super comfy king-sized bed (with mattress topper and crisp white bed linen). In the mornings enjoy a lie-in, read or take in the views of the loch and all its wildlife without ever having to get out of bed! There is hot and cold running water, small Belfast sink (water pumped to the hut and shower using energy from a solar panel) chairs, table, enamel crockery and all your essential cooking utensils provided inside the hut. Try your hand at some eco-friendly and rustic living with an eco composting toilet ( luxury woowoo style so no smells or separating required) and a separate hot water rainforest shower situated a couple of meters away for privacy, but not too far away for a visit in the middle of the night. (Or the brave may just want to bathe in the loch under the stars! ) We are Eco friendly and electricity-free (bring your own battery pack or request the use of one from us, 4G is available if you want it). We provide bottled drinking water, milk, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, salt, and pepper with well-stocked village shops located in Balmaclellan (4 miles away), New Galloway, and Dalry. We support the ethos of wild camping with a ‘leave no trace’ (please take away your rubbish and use water sparingly) policy. If you are adventurous or just wish to escape, looking for a digital detox in times when silence is a hot commodity - book your stay with us now! We support sustainable travel so if you wish to arrive by public transport please get in touch ( Public transport from Glasgow/Ayrshire is very straightforward ). EV charging station 3 miles away in New Galloway or Dalry. DC super charge station in Castle Douglas. Up to two small dogs can be accommodated . ✔️Bring your own fishing rod, paddleboard, or kayak to launch off the shore in front of the Shepherds' hut or bikes to explore the numerous cycle trails in the area! * Please note children must be supervised at all times as the location is on the shore of the Loch. Guest access The Shepherds hut is accessed via a track through the fields located directly off the A713. Guests are welcome to walk along the fields on the shores of loch Ken with a further 400 acres of forest and hills available to explore. This is a unique location, enjoying direct access to the loch in your own private field! Other things to note Up to two small dogs (one medium size) are allowed but please use a lead when out walking across the fields where stock are grazing and no dogs on the bed thanks. Please inform us if you wish to bring your dog . We are a fully working farm so guests need to be mindful of the country code throughout their stay. We continue to strive towards ecotourism by providing a unique experience in natural surroundings. Our sustainable practices include recycling, the use of Solar power to pump our running water, wind power to facilitate our advanced composting loo , the provision of naturally derived toiletries from ‘Faith in Nature’ and our leave no trace policy on waste. All guests literally sleep in Scottish sunshine as we use the sun and wind to dry all linen and towels . We are committed to the environment by reducing the use of valuable resources and try to leave as little impact as possible .
