Originally these small cobbled central London streets were built to house stabling for the large houses on either side. Over the years they have become some of the most desirable residences in London We’ve long been fans of mid-century design and chose this property because it was built in the 1950s and designed for easy living Our home is much loved and has been our London base for nearly 30 years. It has very high ceilings, polished walnut flooring and iconic "Crittal" windows looking out onto the cobbled private Mews. Paddington is a ridiculously convenient place to live. As well as a multitude of bus options, if you want to catch a tube, there are three underground (tube) stops within 5 minutes walk. These are Paddington for the Circle, Bakerloo and Hammersmith and City Lines, Bayswater for the Circle Line and District Line and Lancaster Gate for the Central Line). From Paddington Station there is also the mainline train lines to the west of England together with the Heathrow Express service to Heathrow Airport every 15 minutes. Plus we have the fantastic new Elizabeth Line that can whisk you right across London quickly and comfortably. For peace and serenity in the heart of the city, you're less then 10 minutes to Hyde Park. From there you can take a boat ride on the Serpentine or walk to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament without ever leaving parkland. If you want to cycle, the London Cycle-Super Highway runs less than a minute from the house. This is a protected route all the way across London. We don't provide bikes but there are hourly rental bikes available very close by. And if you want to get out of town to Oxford, Bath and the west country, then hop on a train from Paddington. Oxford is less than 60 minutes, Bath is 75 minutes and Bristol is only 90 minutes. There is no parking available at the house but you definitely don't want a car in central London. You can hire one close by if you want to make a day trip. Or just grab one of London’s iconic black cabs if you’re tired after a long day of sightseeing and want a ride home Guest access We use the house ourselves when we are in London but we live mainly in Amsterdam. It is our London home and not an investment rental property. You will feel the personal nature of the property when you stay here, browse the shelves in the library and enjoy the well equipped kitchen. It feels like a home with lots of books, artworks and design items. But as a guest you won’t see more mundane or unsightly signs of our presence :-) We keep our own things on the third floor of the house. This is kept locked and is off-limit to guests. The rest of the house is fully accessible and yours to enjoy and make your own for the duration of your stay Other things to note There is no restroom on the ground floor. There are two bathrooms one floor up by the bedrooms. There are only limited handrails on the stairs and no child gates or protectors of any kind. So although we do welcome families with older children, the house isn’t “kid-proof”. It isn’t robustly furnished nor well equipped for youngsters. But we have many friends with older children who use our place when they come to London. So this isn’t a deal breaker so long as you understand the house’s limitations and behave appropriately There are only two beds. Both are super-king size, width 180cm and 200cm long. These have goose down duvets and pillows so are not suitable for those with allergies This is central London. Even in a Mews there is noise. And there will inevitably be construction work somewhere close by. Londoners are always making changes to their homes, digging up roads et cetera
