Spacious Garden Home

Mary's home lies in a hamlet on the Southeastern corner of the Charente, bordering the Dordogne. It is joined to a larger property but is entirely private. The place is well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay including bed linen and towels. It is suitable for a couple or couple with infant. There is a lovely private garden and a large terrace for outdoor meals and also a barbeque. The space Mary's place is spacious yet cosy. The garden is very private and there is a lovely large terrace for al fresco meals and drinks. The Dronne river is close by and there are many tranquil spots for wild swimming. The hamlet is less than 10 minutes away from the small towns of Chalais and St Aulaye where there are supermarkets and weekly markets. Aubeterre sur Dronne, named one of the prettiest villages in France, is a little over 10 minutes away with its subterranean church, boutique shops, local crafts and a lively ambience. There are plenty of bars and restaurants and on Sundays there is a market around the tree circled square. Bonnes is another pretty village which lies at the edge of the river Dronne. There are two restaurants, and many interesting walks along the river or country tracks. St Aulaye, Aubeterre and Paltrot have riverside beaches and restaurant/bars from June until September. Aubeterre and St Aulaye also have a great choise of restaurants, either traditional French, Tapas, or tea- rooms which serve afternoon tea. Also it is possible to hire kayaks and canoes from many of the close by villages to meander along the Dronne river. The vineyards of Bordeaux start about half an hour away, and to get to St Emilion, Bordeaux or Cognac it takes just over an hour. Perigueux, Bergerac and Brantôme with their medieval centres are also just over an hours travel. It's a great area for either relaxing, exploring, swimming and cycling or just enjoying the fine wines and cuisine of the region. Guest access There is road side parking on the lane at the side of the house. There is a gate at the side of the lane for guest access. Other things to note Bed linen and towels are provided, and also, lavatory paper, shower gell, soap and shampoo. In the well equipped kitchen there will be for your use , salt, various dried herbs and spices, olive oil, sugar, coffee and tea. I also provide washing up liquid, dishcloths and tea towels.
