Catherine Hill Bay is in Awabakal Country in the Hunter Valley Region of NSW. It was recently recognised for its outstanding beauty in the book "101 Best Australian Beaches". The heritage precinct of Catherine Hill Bay consists of less than 150 houses. Torodes was the original cottage hospital in the old town, which has been beautifully restored with all modern conveniences while retaining the retro character of years gone by. Across the road, the southern end of Catherine Hill Bay beach is patrolled from October to April. Recreational activities include swimming, surfing, fishing and coastal walks. The village is surrounded by National Parks and is a great base for bushwalking and bird watching. The beach across the road is dog friendly for the area north of the creek (which is 90% of the beach). Torodes is a fantastic base for exploring the Hunter Valley Region, including the expansive waterways of Lake Macquarie (minutes away), the thriving food and arts scene in Newcastle (40 minutes), and the Hunter Valley vineyards (1 hour).
