Olive Meadow Cottage lies at the edge of the charming village of Madeirã, Oleiros, high on a hillside in central Portugal, with breathtaking views over spectacular countryside, a lake and the distant Serra da Estrela. The space This renovated cottage is part of a smallholding where the owners grow their own vegetables, fruit and olives – it is a beautiful space for a peaceful, relaxed break in natural surroundings. Olive Meadow Cottage is conveniently close to the owners’ main house and is totally self-contained and private. The cottage and its own outdoor areas offer exceptional views over the valleys and surrounding mountains – this is rural Central Portugal at its finest, a region of water, forests and farms. Long lunches and relaxed evening meals, in the outdoor seating area, under the chestnut tree and vines often causes guests to doze off in the shade on one of the sun-loungers. The family dog love newcomers, especially if they allow her to lead the way on walks. Please ask us if you wish to take them with you. Neither our cats nor dog are allowed in the cottage, as it is deep cleaned before every arrival. The cottage has two bedrooms, one with double bed and the second with two singles. The open-plan kitchen is well equipped and the lounge area is comfortable after a hard day’s relaxation. The shower area in the bathroom has especially magnificent views of the distant mountains. The long hot summers can be spent at nearby river beaches or relaxing inside the air conditioned cottage. Outside the summer season, then woodburning stove and aircon heating unit quickly warms the cottage, however winters are cold so come prepared– a contribution towards the cost of the wood is asked for. There is a washing machine that visitors can use. It is at the main house and a contribution towards energy costs is asked for. Guest access The public road to Madeirã snakes through the hills and the final 200 metres to Olive Meadow Cottage is down a fairly steep, but safe, cobbled road. The parking area is flat and close to the cottage, however there are two stairs from this area. Access to the charming village of Madeirã, the local forest areas and the lake is on your doorstep and visitors love to take walks, bicycle rides or simply drive around the local area. Other things to note WiFi is available. The fridge does not have a freezer. There is no restaurant close by, so please bring food especially for the first night, or be prepared to drive approximately 12km to the closest restaurant or We can provide an evening meal if requested in advance. We have two dogs and sometimes foster care puppies which are all free roaming on our land. Due to Covid we have decided to block off the cottage for a day between guest stays.
