1920's cottage. Relax & enjoy amazing mtn. views, 200 acres of trails, woods, pastures, farm, & fields. We have 3/4 of a mile of river frontage on the N. Toe River, marked by bluffs, rapids, beach, waterfalls & a swimming hole for you to enjoy! Take a tour to learn about our property & the critically endangered Arapawa goats that we are helping to breed pack into population. You can visit the goats, horses & hike miles of 9 distinct hiking trails on the property with the detailed map we provide! The cottage has one bedroom with a full bed and one bathroom (the couch can made up for one more guest, or small children it is not a pullout). A wall ac/heat ductless minisplit unit. A portable electric heater is accessible all year as well as the ac/heat wall minisplit unit. A propane flame heater in the kitchen, also warms the entire cottage, turned on seasonally from October 1st through May 1st. Outside there is a fire pit (we provide firewood, lighter fluid and a lighter), a propane grill and plenty of lounging space! A full kitchen with all cooking and eating utensils provided as well as oil & most spices! Eggs are provided seasonally when chickens are laying (they don't lay a lot in colder weather), mints, water, tea, ground coffee & popcorn to get you started Important: Winter storms leave ice and snow on our mountain roads. When this happens we will do everything we can to accommodate your safe arrival and departure. Normally roads are plowed and salted by the county within 24 hours (often much sooner). When winter storm warnings occur we recommend parking your car at the top of the driveway by the road prior to the event. We do this and so do most of the locals. Our guests are our top priority. When winter storms happen we will be available to assist you in all your needs. We will also salt the porch/steps for your safety, but bear in mind this does not always keep ice from accumulating, please be careful when walking on the porches and steps during freezing temperatures and precipitation. Guest's have access to all of Bingham Family Farm's 200 acres, hiking trails, animals, river and farm. We raise critically endangered Arapawa Goats, which is the rarest goat in the world. We are doing our part to help breed them back into population. It is generally thought that these extremely rare goats were left on Arapawa Island in New Zealand from the expeditions of Captain James Cook and are descended from the extinct Olde English Goat. In 2019 there were approximately 150-200 Arapawa goats in the United States. Bingham Family Farm is one of the largest privately owned Arapawa breeders in the world with over 45 goats. We can interact as much or as little as you'd like. We know that sometimes you may need a little peace quiet and some down time but we are available to give tours, help with fires, or just visit and chat. You set the tone :-). Rural farm community with mountains and rivers. The town of Burnsville with restaurants, groceries, shopping and more less than 30 minutes away (15 Miles). Asheville is a one hour drive, Boone is one hour and 30 minutes away. The Appalachian Trail is 15 miles away. Mount Mitchell, the highest peak in the Eastern United States and of the Appalachian Mountains, is one hour along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The closest Blue Ridge Parkway entrance is 20 minutes. We are 15 miles from the Appalachian Trail , one hour from Asheville, an hour and a half from Boone and close to most of what Western North Carolina has to offer. Our dogs are always in a pen with the animals or on a leash, but we are a rural farm community and other dogs do visit our listings and property. They are very friendly towards humans and animals, but if you are unsure of how your pet will react, please keep them on a leash. I’m sorry we don’t accept cats. Don’t forget to add your pets underneath the number of humans coming (number of Adults, Children, Infants and then Pets is that order). We have $25 pet fee (one time fee only, not per pet). The $25 pet fee will be added to your reservation when you select the number of pets at the time of booking.
