Achnashellach Bothy, cosy home in mountain scenery

Achnashellach Bothy is a cosy cottage set in a mature garden, in Strathcarron. Lochcarron village is nearby. The cottage is on the NC500 route and is set in magnificent mountain scenery. A perfect base for walkers and mountain bikers to explore the West Coast and the Isle of Skye. The cottage is conveniently and centrally located for touring near to the Torridon Munros, Beinn Eighe Nature reserve, Loch Maree, the Corrieshalloch gorge, Applecross, as well as many stunning West Coast beaches. The space The Bothy is a haven for wildlife, you will hear birdsong and the waterfall in the distance and that is about all. It's also perfect for the days when you just want to relax and read. Accommodation The comfortable sitting room has an open log fire, there is satellite TV and DVD player.. It also has a dining table. This leads to a well equipped kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The cottage is heated by night storage heaters. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with a kingsize bed, a small desk and cupboard, and a twin room with desk and cupboard. There is a small bathroom with a shower over the bath. Guest access The Bothy is set in a mature garden, full of rhododendrons, azaleas and mature trees. The cottage has a picnic table outside and guests are free to enjoy the garden. The cottage is adjacent to the Lair river and there are pools in the river which are stunning and possible to swim in when the river is not in spate. There are a range of Munros locally which can be reached by walking from the cottage or with a short drive, as well as some lovely low level walks. Other things to note We will provide directions and a code for the key box so you can arrive whenever suits you best and we will be available during the first evening in case you have any questions. Please arrive after 5pm and depart by 10am at the end of your stay. We provide the essentials as well as, towels, washing up liquid, tea towels and cleaning materials. We include electricity and provide ample logs to get you started. More logs can be bought in the village. There is a short track from the main road to the entrance gate which is an unmade road, it is rough and not ideal for low cars. It is not unmanageable but is worth knowing about before hand. The Bothy is a hundred yards from Achnashellach railway station and some guests have stayed without a car. This is feasible if you come prepared. Guests have scheduled a Tesco food delivery to arrive while the cottage is being prepared which has worked well just let us know if this would help. The train to Kyle of Lochalsh or Plockton is then best for transport to shops and places to eat, Note that there are no shops or pubs etc. within walking distance of The Bothy - just mountains!
