Description
This is a family home close to the beach and a stones throw from all the amenities in Freshwater and the more alternative side of the island. An easy drive to any attraction on the Isle of Wight and a great place to stay for those that want to be close to Nature. The river Yar and old railway is close by and is a great walk to Yarmouth for bird watchers ! We are on the Tennyson trail at the bottom of the downs , below Tennyson's Cross on the cliff top The space There is a king sized bed and two single in a connecting room separated by a door. The adjoining bathroom /toilet is for the guests sole use . Guest access I am happy to pick up foot passenger guests from the Yarmouth ferry. We are on the Tennyson trail for walkers and cyclists . The Needles are 2 miles walk along the cliffs , where you can visit the Needles battery and rocket launch pad Allum bay has an interesting glass blowing studio and restaurants that serve a good variety of food including Vegan. The Needles Breezer bus stops there and you can take this on a sightseeing tour back to Freshwater or beyond. Compton Bay is a breathtaking 2 mile walk along the cliffs on the Military road . Highly recommended for the views and a dip in the sea at Compton. Brook beach next to Compton is famous for the dinosaur foot prints that can be found scattered along the beach. We are opposite Alfred Lord Tennyson's House that is open 4 days a week to the public by appointment. The gardens are open daily. The first female Victorian portrait photographer Julia Margret Cameron lived in Freshwater Bay . She photographed the famous actors , poets and writers of the time , who stayed in Freshwater while visiting Tennyson , in her piggery 'studio". Her beautiful house is open to the public and has photographic exhibitions and tea rooms looking out across the bay. During your stay I am happy to chat with guests usually at breakfast time with those who like to relax and talk about their day . I can often recommend places to visit . There is no food allowed in the bedrooms but guests can use the breakfast room for evening take aways or just playing games and chatting . I can pick guests up from local restaurants at night if they come without a car and also pick up from Yarmouth ferry as sometimes it’s difficult to get a taxi . Other things to note Children over 5 are welcome. There is a pond in the garden and we have two very friendly whippet dogs .
