Description

This unique, original and unassuming 1950s beach house is surrounded by casuarina trees, with views of the turquoise waters of north Broulee Bay. Walk 3mins out the back gate to Shark Bay, your private aquarium, crystal clear and still water, 150 meters across, wedged between Broulee Wildlife Island and Broulee Headland (where the house is). This house is away from residential streets and all you'll hear is birds and waves. Dog beaches are within minutes from the house. Quiet dogs are welcome. The space The house is located on top of Broulee Headland with only ten other houses. Given the age of the house (1950s), its rooms are small but functional. Its garden is fully fenced and safe for pets. It is minutes from 3 beaches: a surf beach (south Broulee; 200 meters), a quiet child-friendly bay (shark Bay; 300 meters), and a beautiful north beach stretching to Mossy Point (400 meters). Walk for 300 meters out the back gate down the magic path amidst the trees to the ocean rocks, and then turn left into stunning, peaceful, mirror-like Shark Bay. You'll see Broulee Wildlife Island framing the north end of Shark Bay. The Wildlife Island offers the most beautiful 1 hour walk you'll ever do. Broulee itself offers beautiful (away-from-the-road) cycling paths going north (towards Mossy Point) and south (towards Moruya through the bush). There are fantastic trail rides between Mogo and Moruya for serious cyclists. A large IGA supermarket is a 10-minute drive away near Tomakin. Mossy Point has the Mossy Cafe with the best-ever coffee and food. The Mossy Point jetty has huge manta rays eating the fish remains chucked into the water by fishermen. Moruya is a 15 minute drive south and has farmers markets on Tuesday afternoon and Saturday morning. Mogo (15 min drive west) is an arty village, and Mogo Zoo has white lions and all kinds of other wild animals. Guest access Guests can access all parts of the house except the little store room downstairs and the storage space under the stairs. Other things to note Note: Please bring your own (1 x queen, 1 x double, 4 x single) sheets and towels. I can order sheet-towel delivery for you (cost depending on how many sheets/towels you need). Please note: the single beds are 1950s size; that is, they’re on the small side and not well-suited to full-sized adults! The house will have essentials: oil, sugar, vinegar, salt/pepper, tea, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, clothes detergent, and some toilet paper. Do make sure you bring soap, shampoo and the like as these are not provided. The house is old but it has all the modern amenities: huge fridge, 6-point Ilve stove with an extra wide oven, dishwasher, gas heater upstairs and two electric heaters downstairs, electric (under) blankets (queen bed and double bed only), clothes washer and dryer, hair dryer, mixer and blender, juicing machine, coffee plunger and cafetiere, microwave, toaster, kettle, combustion stove, axe for chopping wood, outside BBQ, front yard outside open fire place, etc. The water in the toilet always looks a bit brown because it flushes using recycled water from the rain tank behind the house. Please note: this is an original 1950s beach house. If you're after a modern, brick/concrete, shiny, air-conditioned hotel setting, this is not the house for you. If you're after an old-fashioned holiday house where you can get in touch with the past, the smells and sounds of the ocean, the rustling of trees and singing birds, and where you may not see or hear a lot of cars except your own, this is the place for you.
