Bremen’s Barn is an upside-down house that has 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are three bedrooms on the ground floor. A four poster double with a single bed. A small double and another lovely double with soft furnishings and all with comfortable beds. Upstairs there is a beautiful long gallery open plan living, dining and kitchen. The Kitchen has everything you need for a stay away with crockery and utensils as well as an undercounter fridge and freezer and electric cooker. Across from the landing is another double bedroom with an additional single bed. Outside you have your own private enclosed area with furniture, decking and a BBQ area. This leads to the main gardens which are shared with the other courtyard properties (Hope’s Hideaway and Reuben’s Roost) both these cottages have their own private space and are not always booked as we try and allocate just one cottage, or all are booked together for a group stay. Therefore, guests often have exclusive use of this area, especially mid-week. However, this cannot be guaranteed. Within the garden is lovely enclosed Hot Tub under its own gazebo where you can watch the sunsets and enjoy the views with the animals grazing in the field. (the alpacas or goats are often in sight) We have three hot tubs on site, but the Courtyard Properties share this one. If you are the only guests in the courtyard properties or have booked as a shared group, then you have exclusive use of this complementary facility. Otherwise pre booking is essential for use of the Hot Tub. Adults only, Terms and conditions apply. The gardens have a mown lawned area, seating and offer glorious sunsets, and starry nights if you are lucky. For little ones there is a little tykes play area and room to bring a paddling pool. These gardens also lead into the mown paddocks where you can play ball games or host other activities. In addition, there are 22 acres of fields with woodlands, a pond, an alpaca hill! A fire pit area as well as a communal area to enjoy time together or as a group, share a barrel of ale (we can provide) and enjoy time feeding or watching the animals. If you want quiet time, there are many areas to escape to on the farm, and little seats dotted around for you to enjoy the views or read a book! Lower Damgate Farm is also home to Dovedale Animal Sanctuary. All our animals have been rescued, and we have alpacas, goats, sheep and several ducks, chickens, and geese to go and say hello to. If you would like to spend time with the animals, you are welcome. They love carrots and apples so if you have room for these please bring some, in addition we have a food station where you can grab a scoop of feed and take it to the animals yourselves. It is a lovely way to interact with them. Collecting eggs is almost obligatory, and guests are welcome to spend time with any of our animals, though children must always be supervised. For your stay we provide a little welcome pack of tea towels, cloths, washing up liquid, bin bags as well as a couple of loo rolls etc to get you going, however please be aware that all our accommodation is self-catering, and you will need to provide all your toiletries as well as all your food and provisions. In addition, we ask you to provide your own bathroom and Hot Tub towels. (Tea towels and hand towels are provided) We are only a small family run business and only have so much time away from the animals, so please help us by providing your own unless you are visiting from abroad. Our area of the Peak District is stunning, so please don’t forget your walking boots and wellies as there are some amazing walks straight from the door and you may need them to feed the animals and explore the farm (though the feeding and viewing areas are hard standing) You are welcome to explore but the farm is a working animal sanctuary so please be aware that there are animals and implements on site. The countryside surrounding us is simply beautiful, and we are nestled between Dovedale and the Manifold valleys. We pride ourselves on being a small family business and share our beautiful home to guests who want to relax and unwind in this wonderful part of the Peak District National Park. Our Farm has over 22 acres for guests to use, it is very rural with lots of space, gardens, and stunning landscapes to enjoy. The area is great for walks straight from the door and the farm is in the perfect position for exploring the Peak District National Park as it is nestled between the famous Dovedale and Manifold Rivers. We are surrounded by National Trust land and only a mile from the local village of Ilam with the NT Ilam park, Stepping Stones and Dovedale on the doorstep. We are also close to the villages of Alstonefield, Wetton, Milldale and Thorpe where there are good pubs and teas rooms as well as being close to the market country towns of Ashbourne, Bakewell, Leek, and Buxton where there are good amenities and local attractions to explore like Alton Towers and Chatsworth House. The Farm is also our home, and we are very relaxed and happy to share our little world with you. There have been many residents over the years as the farm was once home to a Viking Longhouse, the Romans lived here and built the culvert that is still running down the drive and the Tudors built the stone house we now live in. The landscape around us is stunning, it has its own eco climate, when the sun shines its hot and when the wind blows it goes over the top of us as the Vikings were good architects, we love it and it is a perfect base to explore this beautiful part of the world. Our ethos is relaxed and informal with a philosophy that “Nothing is a problem”. We are very approachable and want our guests to feel at home. The Farm is an escape from the world, rural and remote, its not perfect but its comfortable with everything you need to enjoy a break away where you can feed the animals, watch the sunsets, put your feet up, chill out with drink, light the BBQ and enjoy quality time with your favourite people. You create your occasion, bringing your walking boots, provisions and a carrot or apple or two for the animals and we give you the space and respect to do your own thing. We are humbled that the cottages have been awarded Farm Holiday Cottages of the Year 2021-2022 North West, and the Courtyard properties have been highly commended in the Sunday Times Travel Reviews.
