Description

A 350 year old cottage built in Cotswold stone. It retains a wealth of original character including oak beams, flagstone floors and the original cast-iron oven doors from its days as a bakery. Enjoy cosy evenings by the wood burning stove or summer days on the terrace with the french doors thrown open. Ideally located for exploring the many Cotswold villages, historic estates, Blenheim Palace, Oxford, Bicester Village, Soho Farmhouse, Estelle Manor, Daylesford, Diddly Squat Farmshop and more. The space Enter into the flagstone floored entrance before going through to a cosy white wash beamed sitting room. Enjoy the wood burning stove, books, TV with streaming platforms, a DVD collection or a board game from the family games cupboard. Alternatively, throw open the sitting room french doors and enjoy the flagstone courtyard terrace with lovely views. A well equipped little kitchen flows directly off of the sitting room with everything you need for your stay. Climb the cottage staircase to the first floor landing off which you'll find the following rooms; A charming twin bedroom with two single beds (UK standard single mattresses 90x190cm). The main bedroom with a king size bed (UK standard king mattress 150x200cm) and finally the shared family bathroom with cast iron roll top bath. Please note that the bath has a handheld shower rose but there is no walk-in shower in the property. The Old Bakehouse is an historic Grade II Listed building. We have been careful to retain all of its original features, charm and character while adding the creature comforts. Please do note that some of the original beams and ceilings are low and some of the doorways smaller than their modern counterparts due to the period the cottage was built. The cottage enjoys fast fibre broadband. As with most of rural England, if you wish to explore the Cotswolds we recommend doing so by car but there is a rural bus service. UK rural bus services are far less frequent than city services so check ahead to see if it works with you plans. There is also a train station in the nearby village of Charlbury which is only just over an hour to London. Pre booked taxi will be required from the station. Guest access The front door to the cottage is not on the road side, you'll see a brick parking driveway between the cottage and the barn cottage next door and the front door is round from there. Guests have the whole property to themselves. They also have the use of the flagstone courtyard to the front front of the cottage. Other things to note Please get in touch in advance if you have any special requests. We can provide a high chair and travel cot* on request. *We can provide a pack-down style travel cot and mattress. Like many UK hotels, we don't provide baby bedding for our travel cot because of the UK SIDS/safe sleep recommendations from organisations like the NHS and the Lullaby Trust regarding sheets, pillows, blankets and buffers. This allows parents to make their own safe sleep choices for their little ones. Thank you!
