Located in the heart of the Sassi of Matera (UNESCO World Heritage since 1993), in one of the oldest nuclei of the so-called Sasso Caveoso, the house combines the unique atmosphere of traditional homes dug into the tuff, with all modern comforts. It consists of a single 100 sqm room accessed through a completely independent entrance. The terrace overlooking the Sassi, for the exclusive use of guests, is furnished to accommodate panoramic aperitifs and relaxing outdoor chats. The space has been expertly renovated, maintaining the original hypogeum structure, and is finely furnished. The relaxation area was created on the lower floor where the cellar originally stood, with a large tub and massage beds. With its canopy bed and magical atmosphere, it is ideal for couples looking for romantic moments and intimacy. The suite is also suitable for families of up to 4 people, thanks to the availability of a comfortable double sofa bed. Children up to 5 years of age who share the double bed with their parents are accommodated free of charge; upon request, a crib can be provided for an extra fee. For each bed I add €30.00 per person. Reservations for two are for a double bed. It also has a fully equipped kitchen with dining area, fridge, fireplace, TV, Wi-Fi, and a bathroom with large shower. Air-conditioned with hot air, the apartment can also accommodate you in winter. In particular, in summer it represents a comfortable refuge from the heat even on the hottest days, thanks to the tuff that keeps the internal temperature constant in a natural way. In fact, there is no air conditioning system as the natural temperature does not require it. You will enjoy the unique experience of living in a cave dug entirely into the rock. Consider your stay as a unique experience not to be compared with any other experience such as hotels, modern apartments, villas, etc. Sleeping in a natural cave also involves a unique atmosphere and climate that will allow you to have the feeling of living in the belly of the earth with its smells, climate and its founding material thousands of years old. The uniqueness of the accommodation is also due to the fact that the apartment is completely independent; you do not share anything with anyone and once in possession of the keys you will be free to have the apartment in absolute privacy for the duration of your stay. Clean linens are provided for the entire period, while daily cleaning is not provided during your stay. If you are deciding to book a tourist facility in Matera, make sure of the location of the one you are about to choose. Many facilities are located in narrow alleys where it is not possible to arrive by car and are very far from the nearest parking lot. Our house is located on the main road that can be traveled, as it is a limited traffic zone, at certain times of the day; for example, for check-out, it will even be possible to arrive by car in front of the door to load your luggage and leave, as until 10:00 a.m. it is possible for everyone (residents and tourists) to enter the Sassi district by car. According to national laws on short rentals, you will be asked upon arrival to sign a simple contract relating to the days of your stay. If in doubt, upon request, we can send a copy of the contract. NEW: The Municipality of Matera has recently established a tourist tax of €2.00 per person per night and applies only for the first three nights of stay. Children under the age of 14 are exempt. The accommodation tax is not included in the rate and must be paid upon arrival. Pets allowed only upon request and with payment of €25.00 on site. Other things to note Unlike many other houses located in the Sassi districts, which can only be reached on foot and with the nearest parking lot at a considerable distance, it is also possible to reach the apartment by car at certain times of the day; that is, when the ZTL is not in operation. In any case, the parking lots (public and private) are about 200 meters from the apartment. Also convenient for families with children. The apartment is completely dug into the rock and as such has the typical climatic characteristics of an underground environment and therefore of a cave (Sasso).
