Historic and comfy 1870 Chalet at Gerber's

The chalet is located at Gerber's Nursery outside the village of Golden Lake, and provides a cozy get away for a couple, small family or four friends travelling together. One bedroom has a Queen bed and the loft has a double, with a small sofa bed downstairs which sleeps one. We are 30 minutes from Renfrew, Pembroke and Barry's Bay. 1.5 hours west of Ottawa. In the other direction 1.5 hours to Algonquin Park. A great base to explore the Ottawa Valley. The space The chalet is located at the heart of our plant nursery and landscaping business outside the village of Golden Lake. The farm dates back to 1860 and the chalet was one of the first log buildings on the property - probably from 1870. When my husband was growing up here, this was the building where he housed and milked his cow. In the 1970s it was renovated into a guest house with the European-style "chalet" reminiscent of Germany where the family originated from. A recent rehaul has made the chalet ready to welcome visitors from near and far. There is a homey country feel to the chalet, complete with portraits of my great-great grandparents from the Smokey Mountains of East Tennessee. Old books, a big collection of National Geographics for perusing and extra afghans for cozing up on the couch add to the feeling of relaxation and comfort. The chalet is quite cozy, but very comfortable for a small family, couple or group of four travelling together. The main floor has the living/dining room, separate kitchen and small three-piece bathroom with shower. The small sofa in the living room has a pull out single bed. Upstairs, which you access on newly hand-crafted log stairs, is the loft area with a double bed. A separate bedroom is off the loft area, giving privacy for both areas. Bedding, towels and extra blankets are provided. There is AC in the bedroom area in summer and all areas are heated in winter. There is free wi-fi on the property, accessible on the patio. New for 2021 is beach access on the property to our private sandy beach. It's 2 k from the chalet and there is parking there. Guest access The chalet is yours to enjoy in privacy. The chalet is in the courtyard of the nursery property. Visible from the balcony are the greenhouses, as well as our home and a second cabin - Gerber's pre-confederation cabin. With almost 400 acres, the farm offers lots of room for all.
