Rustic secluded stone house in the countryside
Rustic, secluded stone house surrounded by rolling vineyards and venerable chestnut trees, and bordered by a mountain stream. In the heart of the Languedoc, an hour west of Montpellier, only 40 minutes from uncrowded Mediterranean beaches. Perfect for day trips to Nîmes, Arles, Avignon, and the Camargue. Village of Cabrières (winery and simple shopping) 5 minutes away; recreational Lac du Salagou 10 minutes away. We offer a 35% discount for 1-month stays and higher discounts for longer stays. The space The house is on a quiet country road and on the village water supply but is off the electric grid. Solar panels (480W) charge batteries that provide halogen lighting throughout the house and recharge phones, computers, and other small devices from 3 inverters (one 150W and two 300W), which are located in the pantry and are connected to a baseboard wall socket upstairs. A 650W pull-start 2-cycle generator can also recharge the batteries and run appliances, including a small hair dryer. Gasoline containers and oil for 50:1 mixing are provided, but guests must furnish their own gasoline. There is no television or WiFi at the house, but guests report cell phone coverage is satisfactory. The oven and 4-burner stove and oven, hot water heater, heaters in each bedroom and the bathroom, and refrigerator run on gas fed by a large outdoor tank. There is a large fireplace with an ample supply of dry wood behind the house. Each bedroom is equipped with two sets of sheets and pillowcases and a duvet. Each of the two double beds has 4 pillows; the single bed has 2 pillows. The dinner table seats 8. Dogs are welcome, though note that the property is not fenced. Guest access Full house and grounds.
