Description

The idyllic forest hideaway 20 minutes from Mt Baw Baw Ski Village. Moose Head Lodge is one of a kind; off-grid, warm and comfortable, a little quirky and oh so peaceful. The space We love Moose Head Lodge. An off-grid gem where you can truly stop and take in the natural beauty. Comfortable, considered and truly unique. You'll feel at home the minute you enter, bedrooms prepared with beautiful linen, a bottle of wine to settle proper and special touches make Moose Head Lodge a place you'll remember. Moose Head FAQs: Q. Making beds? No way, I’m on holiday! A. Exactly! You'll arrive to have the beds made up, everything freshly laundered, so you can focus on the good things for your time away. Let us know if your guest numbers change before you arrive, we want to make sure everyone in your crew has a comfy night sleep. We'll also have ready towels, bath mat, hand towel and tea towels. Q. Do I have to lug firewood all the way up? A. Lumberjacking isn't for everyone, that's why we make sure you're sorted with all the wood you need to keep the fire roaring, the firepit blazing and the earth oven stoked up for cooking! We're a little (a lot) obsessed with this stuff – we'll make sure you have plenty of kindling, middlings and the big stuff. All our wood is sourced sustainably, by us, from registered wood collection areas and only from trees that have already fallen naturally. A fire guard is available for those with little 'uns. Q. What’s this 12 volt business all about? A. Most of the things around you are powered by 240v – microwaves, hairdryers, cyclonic turbo charged vacuum cleaners - you get the picture! Take away 228 of those volts and you're left with 12. It's low-fi living at its best. 12v solar power takes away the 'noise' of daily life, the very reason we love being at Moose Head. We're all about reconnecting with nature, family and besties. It also means we don't have to run a generator when the sun don't shine, and that's a good thing. Q. But I'll die without my hairdryer! A. Your hair's fabulous, you'll be fine! Everything at Moose Head Lodge is considered and tailored for comfort and style. You won't go without. The lights, TV, stereo, turntable, ceiling fans and phone charging points all run off 12v solar power. It's like magic. Gas powers the fridge, hot water, stove and oven. The gas lamps are divine. Q. Any nasty surprises? A. We get that holidays away are a special treat and it's easy for the dollars to add up when there are extra unexpected costs. If you decide you'd like to bring along extra guests – no troubles. We can accommodate up to five people, there's no extra fee. Let us know if your numbers change so we can make sure the beds are made up. We don't charge a cleaning fee – to be honest our guests are amazing and take such great care of the Lodge. We provide a quick list of things to sort before you leave, and all is good. Q. Dogs are the best people. Can we? A. Please! We know how much doggos love Moose Head Lodge – our two favourite furry friends Ziggy and Lonnie give it four paws up! They love long walks through the forest, swimming in the Tanjil River, chilling out on the deck and pizza nights. Let us know if your doggo is joining you so we can make sure they are welcomed. Q. Hate to ask, but can we check in early? A. Early check ins and late check outs rock. It can be tricky for us to offer during the peak winter season, however we're flexible wherever possible and will let you know closer to your booking. Q. Apparently I’m on cooking duty all weekend. What do I have to sort? A. Naturally you'll bring food, however the pantry is set up should you be missing anything. The kitchen is well stocked with all the cooking tools you'd expect and so much more. Send us a message before you leave if there's anything you'll need handy, and want to check we have; actually, test us – we'd love the challenge! Q. Looks like you’re in the middle of nowhere! A. When you walk out into the night and see the stars so bright, that's exactly how you'll feel. Getting to Moose Head Lodge is a beautiful adventure, up, up and up the mountainous terrain featuring giant ferns and mountain ash. Tanjil Bren is surrounded by forest and there's plenty of tracks to get close to what the middle of nowhere has to offer. It is secluded however you're not totally alone – there will be others in the village during your stay however far enough away for privacy. Q Is it ok if I stay just for one night? A. Single nights are tricky for us – we're 100% hands on with preparing and maintaining the Lodge which means return trips up the mountain and back, and all the planning to make sure your trip is perfect. It's a big job and we love it, however single night bookings aren't something we can offer until teleportation becomes a real thing. Q. I want to switch off, but the boss needs my report by COB! Help! A. We can't really help with the report, but we do have WiFi! All you'll need to know is in our Welcome Pack we provide upon your booking. -- ‘Our teenage daughter read many of the books, she took a particular liking to the quirky Tim Burton book and played a record whilst we played cards.’ — Sharon ‘I had high expectations for Moose Head, and yet I was still blown away. Such a charming house, beautiful location and a very well stocked kitchen.’ — Aidan 'As well as enjoying the Lodge we found time for some lovely gum tree forest strolls, a short drive to the snow for some spring tobogganing, and breathing in lots of clean mountain air. We only just left and we're already planning our next Moose Head Lodge adventure!' — Jane 'Our typical day there was in the morning with birds and tea, short drive to the Mt Baw Baw and back for a bush walk. Very very quiet. Very thoughtful hosts who also prepared toys for kids.' — Ashlee 'Loved all sitting around the fire at night with the dim lighting and playing the many board games.' — Ashlyn 'We loved your music collection and that you have chosen thoughtful products to clean and use in your fantastic space.' — Sarah 'A great escape from the rushes of everyday life and loads of character here.' — Gabby 'There is a plethora of quality blankets and rugs — perfect for fireside relaxation. The beds were fabulous, perfect after our novice (and frequently painful) days on the snow. There was plenty of music. There were books and board games. Our children's initial horror at discovering there was no wifi was short-lived. They were immediately relaxed and we had lovely family nights around the fire.' — Kirsten ‘We loved every minute of our stay (Even our dog didn't want to leave!)’ — Rachel 'It was a time of reconnecting with our kids, adventure, much laughter and also a time to stop and recharge our batteries. An experience we will look back on fondly for many many years.'  — Simone 'Equipped with plenty of movies, games, music etc. so we never got bored, great views from all around with tonnes of photo opportunities with nature and the birds.' — Eden 'Sitting outdoors you look out at the the massive gum tree forest with the sun peeking through, and all you will hear is the different bird calls.' — Mary 'The pantry is filled with all the staples you would need and the record player and collection didn't stop all weekend. A great collection of books and games meant we had something to do when we got tired of bushwalking or just watching the wildlife from the veranda. We can't wait to come back.'  — Paul 'The whole aesthetic of the space was beautiful, the scenery oh so peaceful and location very secluded. Perfect for a romantic getaway, or a getaway with a group of friends.' — Jeneile 'Children were very sad to leave, even fought back tears as we left!'  — Jeremy and Nikki Insta @hellofrommoosehead Guest access The house and view will be all yours
