Description
Beautiful stone farmhouse built on ancient battlements next to a chateau. It is perched above the village with a private walled garden with a heated swimming pool overlooking the countryside beyond. A quiet haven but near to all the village amenities. Lovingly restored with true comfort in mind and great attention to detail. You have the entire property to yourselves, spend your days lazing by the pool or visiting the award winning attractions nearby. The space La Garnison is situated at the edge of a picturesque medieval village next door to the chateau and fortified 13th Century church. The house sits alone on a small hilltop overlooking the village below. You enter into a walled courtyard and steps lead you up to a sunny terrace with outside dining table and seating for eight or more. Then into the large open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area. The kitchen is fully fitted with a Smeg range cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, coffee machine , toaster and kettle. There are two sets of French doors that open onto Juliette balconies with stunning views over the village below. The other end of this room has a comfy seating area around the huge open fireplace. The original staircase leads up to a large landing with two spacious double bedrooms and a large family bathroom with a family-sized bath and a walk in Italian shower. The bedrooms have lovely views out over the village. Each bedroom has open beamed ceilings and original features. Downstairs a corridor leads off from the kitchen to the main lounge which has French doors leading out onto another balcony shaded by an enormous Acacia tree. You can sit and watch the red squirrels leap through the tree tops. A walkway leads on up into the garden and pool terrace. The lounge has a large smart tv with English freeview channels. We have a DVD player and a chest full of DVD's. Ideal to keep children entertained but hardly ever used as there is so much else to do! You will discover our wine cellar down a few steps from the main lounge where you can try out some of our excellent local wine. You can just help yourselves and we will charge this at the end of your stay. You will find information on local vineyards, wine tours and a wine book where previous guests have entered their comments on the wine they have tried. Wine tasting evenings with food pairing can also be arranged at La Garnison if you are interested. please message me if you would like to book a winetasting evening or a chef for the night. Another double bedroom is also located off the ground floor corridor and a cloakroom with wc. is right next to it. The second staircase leads up to the master bedroom with an open beamed ceiling up to the rafters. A second bathroom with a walk in shower can be found here too. French doors open up onto a large decked terrace with outdoor lounge area. Steps go down onto the pool terrace and the garden. The pool is heated to 26 degrees. if you wish for it to be hotter we have to charge a fee of 10 euros per day as to partly cover the electricity charges. The pool terrace has loungers and parasols plus a BBQ area. The swimming pool can be entered by internal steps and has a little waterfall which creates a peaceful ambiance. We have cushions for all the loungers, outdoor sofas and dining furniture. The garden is full of lavender, roses and herbs which you are welcome to raid when cooking. There are views out into the fields where the local goat farm sometimes graze their goats. A peaceful setting with the bonus of experiencing French village life if you feel the need. Our large barn has table football, a ping pong table, dartboard and sets of boules that you can practice on the boules court right next to the house. We have five good quality bicycles you can use free of charge so you can go off and discover the local area or visit the market. You can also hire electric bikes locally. We offer a babysitting service at a cost of 15 euros per hour. We will also taxi you to and from local restaurants so you can all enjoy a glass of wine or two. We charge 40 euros for a return trip within half an hour from the property. Guest access You will have exclusive access to all of the property including the house, barn and garden areas. Other things to note There is our traditional village fete the third weekend in August. This is a three day party with dinner, music, boules competitions and a wonderful firework display on the Monday night. It can be very lively and rather noisy. A great way to see a French village in all its summer glory! We provide you with a welcome basket of essentials to get you going including fresh bread from our village boulangerie, home made jam, pate and bottle of local wine. You can enjoy a wine tasting evening at home where Lucinda from "Tasting the Lot" will introduce you to a number of local wines along with food pairing with local delicacies. A fun evening where you will learn a lot about the history of this area, wine making in this region and local produce along with lots of other interesting information. This package is 250 euros.
