Description
Now that the bushfire risk in this area has passed for now, we urge you to come and stay at the Beach House and support our artist in residency program that survives through these Airbnb bookings. This is a place for nature and art lovers. Situated in a stunning beachside location, the property is nestled in the spotted gum forest and bordered by Cuttagee Beach and Cuttagee Lake. The space The Beach House is full of rustic charm and is a testament to the principles of 1970s self-sufficiency, built with mud brick, local timbers and recycled materials. It sits on a large cooperative property designated as a Wildlife Refuge in 1978. It is a short walk to the Four Winds festival and 7km to Bermagui. There are two dwellings at the Beach House. The main house is a large, two-level mud brick house with three large open plan rooms. Upstairs is the main bedroom with a queen size bed. The room has views of the spotted gum forest. Underneath are two large open plan rooms with a double bed and a set of bunk beds. There is one large, nicely presented bathroom in the main house. The kitchen is fully equipped. A Weber Q BBQ is available. The potter’s studio is adjacent to the house and has a bedroom with ensuite and a working studio. The house has WIFI internet. As this is a bush property, internet is slow (but reliable). The house is not connected to town water and is solely reliant on rainwater. We ask guests to use water sparingly. Other things to note The Beach House sits on Umbi Gumbi, a 100-acre property shared by four families. All the houses are located and built out of sight of each other and designed to blend into the landscape. We ask guests to respect the privacy of other families living on the property. As it is a wildlife refuge, we also request that no pets are brought on to the property. Throughout the year, an artist-in-residence program is also run at the Beach House: www.umbigumbiartistinresidence.com Umbi Gumbi has inspired many of Australia's writers and artists, including Dorothy Hewett, Richard Neville, Martin Sharp, John Blay, Michael Dransfield, Salman Rushdie and Brett Whiteley.
