Description

The space Vacation in breathtaking Umbria! Apartment is beautifully restored and fully equipped. Sleeps two. Additional two-bedroom apartment available -- see http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/80382. Rent either or both. Studio space on the ground floor available free of charge to artists -- please inquire for details. Located in Montenero, a medieval borgo with a 13th century castle and incredible mountain views. Only 8 km from historic Todi and within easy driving distance to Assisi, Orvieto, Spoleto, and Perugia. Rome in less than 2 hrs., Florence in 2 and a half. Forty minutes to trains. Quiet neighborhood -- perfect for those looking for a peaceful holiday in beautiful, ancient surroundings. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Casa Antonia was named in honor of my (Maria's) beloved great grandmother who immigrated to the US from Italy in 1904. She was my best friend until her death in 1963, and I'd like to think she's able to see our beautiful house and enjoy knowing we are there in her homeland. We are happy to share our place with travelers planning their Italian holiday. Montenero is a medieval hamlet located in the region of Umbria, also known as “The Green Heart of Italy.” The village is situated high amidst a forest of pines with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. The houses are arranged in a half circle around Montenero Castle, which dates back to the 1200's. Our house was once the rectory and is connected to the lovely old church, which occasionally offers mass on Sunday mornings. Nearby Todi is a charming and historic medieval town with great history, architecture, art, restaurants and shopping. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking. The general area is known not only for its art and architecture, but also for its wine and cuisine, ceramics production, hiking/biking trails, music festivals, and friendly locals. The house is divided into two apartments which can be rented separately or together. Both apartments have exposed stone walls, cotto tile floors, and ancient ceiling beams. Casa Antonia was lovingly restored with authentic materials that reflect the typical Umbrian style. Everything apart from the house itself (which is 500 years old) is new. Each apartment is centrally heated and has a fireplace, satellite TV, DVD player, and stereo. Both apartments are tastefully furnished in a style that is a mix of contemporary and traditional Italian. The carpets are Persian and Oriental. This smaller apartment has a large master bedroom that sleeps two, with a queen size bed and large armoire. It has a fantastic window view of the mountains and countryside. It features a large bathroom with shower and bidet. The kitchen area is small but fully equipped. On the ground floor there is a laundry room with washer and dryer, ironing board, and iron. There is also a studio space available on this level. We are in easy driving distance to trains (Terni or Orvieto), as well as to many interesting and important Umbrian and Tuscan destinations: Assisi, Orvieto, Spoleto, and Perugia (home of the Umbria Jazz Festival)--45 min. to 1 hr.; Rome--1hr. 45 min; Florence Siena, and Arezzo--2 to 2.5 hrs. Montenero is in the countryside, only about 5 miles from Todi. However, shopping for groceries, wine, etc., can be found even closer. A grocery truck comes to our piazza twice weekly and a bread truck comes once a week. There is a supermarket as well as some small grocers, bakers, etc., in nearby Ponte Rio -- only about 5 min. by car. We will be happy to answer any questions about the house or region. Best of luck on your travel plans! Maria and Richard Orr
