Dune House is absolute beachfront, hovering gently over the dunes with no road between the house and the ocean. The house is incredibly private, nestled in an established garden and adjacent to a coastal reserve teeming with stunning native vegetation and wildlife. This is a lovely, relaxed beach house, architecturally designed to maximize views and ensure privacy and comfort. The space The House: Dune House is absolute beachfront, hovering gently over the dunes with no road between the house and the ocean. The house is incredibly private, nestled in an established garden and adjacent to a coastal reserve teeming with stunning native vegetation and wildlife. This is a lovely, relaxed beach house, architecturally designed to maximize views and ensure privacy and comfort. High ceilings, large sliding doors to the balcony and rear deck, along with floor to ceiling windows designed to maximize cross-ventilation, ensure beautiful sea breezes in the summer months. A slow-burning log fire creates the perfect ambience for whale watching or curling up with a book in winter. Our home is fully self-contained and stylishly decorated with carefully selected furnishings and artworks. A collection of books, magazines, DVDs and board games will make you feel right at home. The stunning 180-degree views across the dunes to the wild Southern Ocean are truly special. The house sleeps 7, with a king bed in the master bedroom, queen bed in the second bedroom, and 3 singles (one bunk and one trundle/pull out) in the third bedroom. All beds are high quality and super comfortable. Two outdoor dining areas, a well-equipped, modern kitchen, and two spacious bathrooms make the house a joy to stay in. The upper level of the house comprises master bedroom, bathroom, open plan living, dining and kitchen, covered balcony and rear deck with gas BBQ. Downstairs includes an entry hall, bedrooms two and three, bathroom and laundry. There are built in wardrobes in all bedrooms, and reverse cycle air conditioning and a wood combustion heater upstairs. The private outdoor shower (plumbed with hot water) is a lovely way to rinse off after a surf or swim. The Location: Dune House offers stunning, uninterrupted Southern Ocean views from the Coorong to the Bluff. Gulls, kestrels and dolphins are regular visitors, and you may be lucky enough to spot a whale or the occasional kangaroo. Dune House is situated on a quiet, no through road, on the Victor Harbor to Goolwa coastal bike route. The beach directly in front of the house is never crowded, and depending on the time of year, you may have it all to yourself. Tokuremoar Reserve is located at the end of our no through road. It is a significant site for the Ramindjeri / Ngarrindjeri people. The 70-hectare site contains rare and endangered indigenous plant and bird species, including a coastal melaleuca forest. The Town: An extremely popular holiday destination just over an hour’s drive from Adelaide, Middleton's stunning, open beaches provide the sort of natural solitude that could turn anyone into a beachcomber. It's the 'middle town' on the old railway line between Goolwa and Victor Harbor, and now a thriving hamlet known for its bakery, holiday houses, bed & breakfasts, beach fishing and a rocky point that creates a good surfing break for Southern Ocean swells. If you don’t surf but have always wanted to learn, there are year-round surf lessons on offer at Middleton beach. It's also a popular spot for storm watching and sighting Southern Right Whales in winter. It’s beautiful to see these creatures breaching and playing in the waters, sometimes right in front of the house. They travel past on their way back to Antarctica in late winter and early spring. We are also lucky enough to be located right on the Encounter Bikeway – a shared, sealed coastal pathway that's at its most spectacular between Middleton and Port Elliot. The Region: There are many reasons why people holiday on the Fleurieu Peninsula: surfing, fishing, diving, snorkeling, sailing, art, wine, food, golf, whale watching, hot air ballooning, historic biplanes, steam engines, kayaking and many, many more. The scenery is spectacular, and home to significant Indigenous and European history. Rolling hills are complemented by clifftops, beaches, and the pristine wilderness of the Coorong – where the winding Murray River meets the Southern Ocean. Patterned with vineyards, olive groves and almond plantations running down to the sea, the region has long served as Adelaide's weekend playground. Beach culture is embedded in the Fleurieu. Surfers jog down to the water each morning with boards under their arms. Families walk along the sand collecting shells and constructing sandcastles. The Fleurieu is a hive of activity in summer with a relaxed laid-back feel. Grab some fish and chips or indulge in award-winning wine as you watch the sun set. There’s a different atmosphere in winter but it's just as beguiling. Watch the wild, thundering seas, rug up for a beach walk and see whales slapping their tails in the water. Warm-up beside a cellar door’s crackling fireplace and chat to the winemaker as you sample some stunning South Australian wines. The region boasts an incredible array of locally produced food and wine, with many gorgeous vineyards, cellar doors and farm to table restaurants to explore. The weekly Farmer’s Markets at Victor Harbor and Port Willunga are a great place to shop for fantastically fresh seasonal produce. Nature lovers can explore the untamed wilderness of the Coorong National Park, spot kangaroos grazing at dusk, watch little penguins come ashore at Granite Island, or hike sections of the Heysen Trail, which starts at Cape Jervis, traverses the stunning cliffs from Balquhidder to Waitpinga and continues through the Deep Creek Conservation Park. Other things to note The house is not baby-proof, and has stairs and a wood fire which may not be safe for very young children.
