Recently renovated, self-contained ground floor unit with independent entrance & small private garden in a quiet, secure residential area of Colombo 5. Includes washroom, kitchenette & room with two beds. The unit is attached to the main house residence/studio of the hosts & includes an area with seating to relax, smoke or chat. Furnished in their characteristic style with a blend of comfort & charm, with attention to detail, the ambience is that of an unpretentious Sri Lankan home. The space Equipped with two beds, air-conditioner, wall fan, mosquito net, solar hot-water shower with electric option, microwave oven & dishes, mini-fridge, washing machine (extra charge per wash), hair dryer, iron, linen, crockery & cutlery for four, electric jug kettle, gas or induction cooker, simple cooking utensils and books for reference & reading, the unit is comfortable & clean. Includes laptop friendly work space & free WiFi. Inverter operates fridge, lights, fan & router during power failures. Long term guests particularly appreciate the wardrobe & the cooking facilities. On the walls are paintings & photographs by local artists. Guest access Guests can enjoy the main house garden - a place of shade trees and gentle breezes – to sit, read, smoke, relax and sip an evening sundowner while listening to the birds. In the room is a bookcase with an interesting selection of fact and fiction for all ages/tastes, and books published by the hosts. Ideal for lovers of books and scholars who may have access to the owner’s extensive library (especially on Sri Lanka). Keys to both gate and unit door are given to guests so that you may come and go easily. Driveway well-lit at night. Unit is on the ground floor with direct access from the driveway. During your stay We are a three-person family of professionals who work/live on the premises and while respecting your privacy, are able to assist you. Ours is not a hotel nor a guest house - it is an average Sri Lankan home where normal household activities will continue as usual. We have been hosting guests for a couple of years now and what we enjoy most of all is meeting people from all over the world and having vibrant discussions on a variety of topics. Other things to note Electricity is from the national grid. However an inverter powers lights, fan, fridge and router during power failures. Washing machine - charges per wash applicable to cover electricity & water. Washing machine liquid supplied. Sun-drying possible in the private garden. The owner's premises are home to lovable pet dogs and cats who do not have access to the guest units but have a run of the premises. We have another unit on the 1st floor - a good arrangement for two parties traveling together or for parents with grownup children. Area of unit - 330 sq ft. Some power tool noise (drills, etc) may be heard occasionally as renovations are taking place in a neighbouring house. But as the unit is located at the bottom of a long driveway, there are no sounds of traffic. Free wifi subject to Fair Use Policy. It is a safe place where young women feel quite comfortable coming in late at night/in the early hours of the morning. The driveway is well lit at night with a street lamp opposite the gate. We expect guests to maintain the unit as they would their own home. Room cleanup and linen change every week for those staying a week or more. Walking distance to restaurants, supermarkets, bus routes, clothing stores & Havelock City Mall. Uber & Pickme taxis/tuktuks easily obtainable within minutes.
