Description
Mount House is a much-loved Georgian house located centrally with exceptional harbour and sea views. Either one room or two rooms can be booked. The one-room offering is listed separately. You will be the only guests. I would like to say that the house can be draughty and difficult to keep warm in winter. Breakfast is included, and served in the kitchen. Enjoy the pretty walled garden. There is courtyard parking for one small car. The beach, cafes and shops are just a few minutes walk away. The space A steamship owner lived here from 1850 and Lewis Carroll wrote a ditty mentioning one of his ships. Built around 1760, in Captain Cook of Whitby era, the house has a history we are only now beginning to uncover. If you want to discover Whitby's past, this is a good place to begin. If you enjoy photography, you are likely to be inspired. If you would like to write, we can offer you a bespoke writing desk designed and made by local craftsmen. Looking out of the windows you can check the tide. In the evening watch Whitby's gig rowing clubs training. Seagulls soar and call. The evening sun lights up the Abbey and church. We have a collection of books about Whitby, some local walk books and maps. Other things to note The house is old - built in 1760 - the courtyard was not made for cars. The entrance through the gates is narrow. Many of the modern cars are now too wide to fit. Much of the town has narrow streets and was not built for huge cars. So, although I offer a parking space for one car in the courtyard, it may be that your car is too large and you will need to look for alternative parking.
