You can discover the island and have a good time in restaurants and other establishments of San Juan We offer a new Villa overlooking the new pool and beach with 5 units to rent in addition to 4 identical rooms on the beach. It exudes a fusion of Mediterranean and Southeast Asian architecture with gentle Filipino touches. Casa Juan del Barrio is located at the Maite Marine sanctuary. You can swim during high tide, during low tide the sea is too shallow. If you venture a bit farther into the sea, snorkeling is spectacular. You will need to pay a small fee to the cooperative managing the sanctuary when you snorkel. The Villa has two rooms on the ground floor with direct access to the infinity pool and 3 units on the upper floor - a room, a studio, and a two-bedroom apartment. There are also 2 cottages on the beach with two rooms each. Every room can be rented separately but guests have the option to rent the two cottages and / or the entire villa, or any combination of rooms. All rooms are spacious with private terrace, en-suite toilet and bathroom and equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fan, comfortable beds, fridge, TV, and reliable internet (Starlink) using mesh-wifi. The studio and the apartment have their own kitchen. All other rooms can make use of the common kitchen space for cooking. Since Casa Juan del Barrio is located within the prime tourist area, there are restaurants and bars nearby at walking distance. Our Cottage Rooms: (Cottages) Each room is designed for comfort and easy access to the white sandy beach and inviting blue sea and the relaxing swimming pool. The guesthouse has 4 identical rooms in 2 beach cottages equipped with comfortable furniture, each having an area of 31 square meters, including a private terrace of 8 square meters. Each room has en-suite toilet and bathroom with hot/cold shower. It also has air-conditioning and a ceiling fan. Two rooms have a comfortable king-size double bed (75 by 72 inch / 191 by 182 cm), the two other rooms have each two comfortable twin beds (75 by 36 inch / 191 by 91 cm). The twin beds can be arranged as one double bed if requested. Each room is good for two persons, but additional guests (maximum 1 person) can be accommodated if requested upon booking. The additional guest needs a floor mattress at 20 USD/person/night to be paid on site. A fridge is also available in each room in case you feel like munching or cooling off with cold drinks after a great adventure. Of course, what can be more fun also is viewing your videos and pictures of the day on a big screen of the smart TV. Just click on your mobile phone wireless display and have fun. An outside shower also adds up to your island experience. We recently upgraded the internet by connecting to Starlink with a WIFI mesh serving all rooms. The photovoltaic system with batteries reduces power outages to a minimum, we also installed a pressure tank and pump to improve the shower experience. Common Space: We just constructed a new swimming pool of 10 x 4 m for the use of all the guests. Our guesthouse features a picnic table on the beach, great to hang out and for eating/drinking. We encourage our guests to share space and gain new friends. There is also a common kitchen and a grilling area for guests who prefer to do their own cooking. For our guest convenience, we have menu cards in each room and guests can order food/drinks from our partner Luca-Loco restaurant, which is situated across the street. Many other restaurants also provide food delivery. Please ask our staff for assistance. More available rooms: If your desired period of stay is not any longer available, you can check-out the availability of the other rooms (the four cottage rooms are virtually identical) and there are an additional 5 brand new units. Holidays can be more fun when shared with family members or friends, we recommend renting the entire place (all 9 units together) which could accommodate 20 people, for more comfort and privacy. Guest can also use the common kitchen in the staff house. The guesthouse has a live-in care taker, Ricky, ready to assist guests to ensure their convenience. He can facilitate island tourism information, information for shopping needs, eating out, and others. Ricky takes care of cleaning the bedrooms regularly. I am not living in the area, but I visit the guesthouse occasionally. When I'm there, I will be delighted to chat and have a drink with the guests. Our guesthouse is located in Barangay Maite, Municipality San Juan, along the circumferential road, just 0.5 Km from the town centre. The guesthouse location is unique as it sets right in the Maite Marine Sanctuary beach area, in the municipality of San Juan, the main tourist destination in the entire island. Famous for its magnificent sunset, and endowed with white beaches and clear blue seas, the town has many resorts and restaurants operated by locals and foreigners. In recent years, more and more tourists are coming to the island prompting the construction of more resorts and guesthouses. Eating Out Casa Juan del Barrio guests have easy access to many eating places and bars nearby. The most accessible restaurant is the Italian restaurant “Luca Loco” just across the street, Thai restaurant Aroi Makmak, Baha bar, Infinity Sands and two more Italian restaurants are less than 200 m away. Eating out is very convenient and affordable. We encourage our guests to wander around and sample the various flavours of the island cuisine. The locals are very friendly. Eating in small road-side eateries can be fun too. Cooking is also possible in the common kitchen of the guesthouse. The market is located in the town centre about 1 km away and there are small convenience stores nearby. Fresh fish catch of the day can be purchased from fisherfolk nearby as you do your early morning stroll on the beach, just a few meters from the marine sanctuary and from fish hawkers. Popular activities Located right at the Maite Marine Sanctuary, our place is perfect as a base for swimming, kayaking, snorkelling, and viewing of the famous resident mandarin fish and lush coral reefs. Guests can rent kayaks and snorkelling gear at very affordable rates from the sanctuary operator. Less than 2 Km further, is another marine sanctuary. For diving enthusiasts, there are dive shops nearby. Despite being in the prime tourist area, the neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful. For adrenaline rush seekers, a trip to the nearby zodiac waterfalls affords a free fall jumping experience with local guides. In partnership with operators, we also assist our guests for booking day trips to Apo Island to enjoy the unique experience of swimming with giant turtles. Motorbike renting is popular among tourists. There are many operators at the port area. With well-paved roads all around (72 km entire circumferential road), and several resorts and accessible tourist attractions, the island is just perfect for biking tours. There are two entry ports in the island, Larena and Siquijor Port. From the port, take the Tourist Pedicabs (tuktuk). They offer safe and affordable transport to the guesthouse. Siquijor port is closer, only about 13 km via coastal road or 8.5 km via inland road to the guesthouse. Distance from Larena Port is farther, around 18 km to the guesthouse. Transport rates strictly follows the standard rate set up by the Ministry of tourism to avoid overpricing. The entire coastal road trip from Siquijor port takes about 20 minutes (13 km) and can be noisy, but will immediately be dampened by the beautiful scenery of the aquamarine, blue seas along the coastal roads. Self-drive motorbikes are also available for rental at the port……. very popular among tourists. Just make sure you have a valid driver’s license. The rental rates range from 350-400 pesos or USD 7-8 per day. Our staff can also arrange a pickup for a fee, from port to the guesthouse if requested at least 2 days before arrival. Guests can park for free at the roadside of the guesthouse.
