Welcome to 76 East, a renovated 100 year old farmhouse located in the heart of nature's playground. Snowmobile, ATV, hiking (AT=8 miles) and horse trails are within minutes of the house. Skiing at Black Mountain, Sunday River, and Mt. Abram is within a short drive. Fishing, hunting, biking, boating, swimming and more are available within our town. Whether you're here for outdoor adventures or simply to relax, our home offers the perfect retreat. The property is conveniently situated within walking distance of local amenities, including a general store, gift shop, ice cream shop, park, playground, and scenic cross-country ski and hiking trails. Andover offers a peaceful, authentic Maine experience, where you can unwind and reconnect with nature. Outdoor Recreation: Year-Round Adventure Andover is an outdoor lover’s paradise. In the warmer months, explore swimming holes, waterfalls, mountain trails, and rivers—all just minutes away. A short 7-mile drive takes you to the world-renowned Appalachian Trail, where you can enjoy breathtaking views. Nearby, Grafton Notch State Park offers excellent hiking opportunities, including the wild blueberry-filled Whitecap Mountain (best in July and August) and the panoramic vistas from Table Rock. For a scenic adventure, take the Western Maine Waterfall Loop, a driving tour that showcases stunning waterfalls and geological wonders. In winter, Andover transforms into a snow sports haven. Enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails right in town, or explore the property on snowshoes. For downhill skiing, Sunday River, Black Mountain of Maine, and Mt. Abram are all less than 30 minutes away. Snowmobile enthusiasts will appreciate the nearby trails, and we’ll gladly share our favorite sledding hills and ice fishing spots. If you're seeking more excitement, head to Bethel, a vibrant ski resort town offering restaurants, entertainment, movies, bowling, and live music. For a change of scenery, Portland and its stunning ocean beaches are just 1.5-2 hours away. The White Mountains of New Hampshire, including the famous Mt. Washington, are also within reach for a memorable adventure. Your Private Getaway in a Historic Farmhouse Our farmhouse is a duplex, with the other side (west) occupied by a small bookkeeping office (open 8 am-4 pm, Monday-Friday). Both units are securely separated, ensuring privacy for our guests. The office is an independent renter and does not interfere with your stay. As hosts, we live nearby and are available to assist with anything you need to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Pet-Friendly and Family-Friendly We welcome well-trained, housebroken pets with pre-approval. We'll provide furniture coverings if your pet would like to join you on the comfy seats. We ask that pets are crated when you’re away from the house and remain reasonably quiet to respect our tenants. All pet waste must be picked up in the yard, and due to Andover’s leash law, pets must be leashed outdoors. Please note that for insurance purposes, we require prior approval of your pet’s name, age, and breed (or mix) before booking. Certain breeds and puppies/kittens are prohibited, and we ask that you send a photo of your pet after making the reservation. For families with young children, please note that while the farmhouse has been updated, it retains some classic features from its original construction over 100 years ago. For safety reasons, we recommend discussing any young children or toddlers prior to booking to ensure a comfortable stay. Modern Comforts in a Historic Setting Bathrooms: Both recently renovated bathrooms (one upstairs, one downstairs) feature modern fixtures, including large showers (no bathtubs), fresh towels, and toiletries. The ground-floor bathroom also includes a washer and dryer for your convenience. Kitchen: The fully equipped kitchen includes newer appliances—refrigerator/freezer, electric oven/stove, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, and all the cookware and dinnerware you’ll need for your stay. Bedrooms: The two bedrooms (one with a full bed, the other with a king-sized bed) are located on the second floor and come with standard amenities like bedding, dresser, nightstand, lamps, and a closet. Please note that, as with some older homes, the overhead light uses a pull chain, and there are limited outlets (extension cords are provided). The bedroom doors close fully, but do not lock. Living Room: Relax in the spacious living room with comfortable seating and a Roku Smart TV connected to the house WiFi. You can log in to your Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and other streaming accounts, or enjoy free content available through the TV. Dining Room: The dining area features a large wooden farmhouse table with six chairs, complete with tablecloths, placemats, and napkins. Entertainment: High-speed cable internet with WiFi is available throughout the house, perfect for streaming or browsing. A variety of board games and books are also available for your entertainment. Air Conditioning: During the summer months (late June to early September), two window AC units are available. One cools the entire first floor, while a smaller unit cools the full bedroom. Although we can't currently place a second unit in the king bedroom, both rooms can stay cool with the doors open and a fan. Parking and Additional Information Parking: On-site parking is available for two vehicles, with additional parking potentially available upon request. Guest access Guests have full access to the east (back) side of the house, porch, and large yard. The spacious parking area must be shared with others renting the other side of the house. The attached barn/garage is not available for guest use. Other things to note SUMMER Hikers: We do not offer a regular shuttle service to/from the Appalachian Trail and other area trails. However, if we are around (which is often), please feel free to message, call, or text for a complementary ride to/from the trailhead. AREA: The Western Maine region is fairly rural and Andover is located about 30 minutes from the nearest grocery stores. There are not any 24-hour stores within a reasonable distance. Guests should be prepared to bring supplies that they will immediately need with them, especially when arriving at night as most stores in the area close at 8-9 pm. There is one 24/7 (card only) gas station in Andover. After leaving Andover, the nearest gas stations are about 20 miles away, guest should be aware so that they don't run out of gas before they get to their destination. Depending on your carrier, cell phone service especially data can be spotty in this area. Most people can receive and make phone calls from the farmhouse but while traveling through the area, you will encounter several dead zones. We do have WiFi at the farmhouse to help with your data needs and there are several establishments in the area that have free WiFi available.
