Description

A vintage shepherd's hut nestling in the heart of the Somerset levels, which has been sympathetically restored outside and modernised inside. Sleep under the stars (cloud cover providing!) and wake to a chorus of bird song. During the day, you could cycle or birdwatch on the Levels; fish; hit the beach (just 5 miles away); visit Glastonbury, Wells, Cheddar Gorge; or outlet shop at Clarke’s Village. Finish the day with a BBQ, or sitting around the fire pit or in the hot tub as the sun goes down. The space I had a wonderful time modernising this vintage shepherd's hut. Guests enter via a small set of steps onto a veranda with views over a field and towards the village. I have added acrylic sheets to the veranda in order to provide a protected space to sit, eat, or watch the sun go down. From here, you step through the Dutch door into the compact and cosy living area with its modern kitchenette (with sink, cupboards, combination microwave/oven/grill, and fridge), its wardrobe, and its sofa bed (which pulls out to become a small double bed measuring 180cm (long) x 110cm (wide), but the length can be extended to 206cm in all). At the end of the hut, you will find an en-suite shower area and flushing toilet (the sink is in the kitchenette). The hut stands in my front garden, where you have plenty of private space to sit; to cook on a gas BBQ (gas provided); to enjoy the fire pit (starter pack of wood provided), to soak in the hot tub (an extra charge of £10 per night applies), or just relax. Parking is provided in front of the main field gate by the hut. It lives down the end of a private lane in a quiet, rural village on the Somerset Levels. As a year-round warning, I am afraid, for safety reasons, the hot tub cannot be used in the rain (sorry!). The hot tub will be back out from the 14th February 2025. Please note, as we are out in the countryside mobile phone signals can be intermittent (depending on the phone in question and service provider), but there should be WiFi. WAapp is a reliable way of keeping in touch, though. Please note, this is a quiet and relaxed venue. Party people this one is not for you! Guest access You really need a car, motorbike, bicycle, or sturdy walking boots to get around. We do have a bus service, but, like many rural villages, it has its limits! As an alternative, local taxis are normally very reliable. Except at peak times or during local events, parking in local towns is usually available (but must be paid for). Other things to note During spring (from February), summer, and early autumn, the hot tub is available for an additional charge of £10 per night/ per use. Because of the costs involved, once the tub is booked and has been heated and prepared for use, the charge becomes due (even if you then decide not to use it). This year, the hot tub will be available until, at least, the end of November (2025). Unfortunately, it cannot stay out when temperatures drop below 6 degrees for more more than the odd day. It is often available for the New Year, but I cannot guarantee this - it completely depends on the weather running up to and around the New Year! I am happy to provide a scones, jam, and cream tea for you on arrival. The cost is £15 for two people. Because of the steps up to the hut, and its compact size, I very much regret that I cannot offer wheelchair access. This is a quiet and relaxed venue. Party people, it isn't for you!
