The Edwardian Showman's wagon
Description
Perched in the high corner of a Herefordshire wildflower meadow, with fold upon fold of rolling hills running off into the Black Mountains, this great green and gold-ribbed showman's waggon (old Herefordshire spelling) boasts wonderful comfort and cosiness - with full bathroom facilities in its own heated cedar extension, and a fantastic wood burner for year-round warmth, you can enjoy all the wildness and romance of nature with every comfort from home. Sleeps 2, plus up to 2 well behaved dogs The space Down a farm track, you arrive into a secluded orchard - and there, at the end of a woodland path, stands the Edwardian. Push open the front door, and you step into another world: inside, exquisite period detail; and outside, just there, through the French windows onto the south, is the sun terrace overlooking the glorious view. At the heart of the wagon is a fiercely efficient wood stove - ensuring that you can be deliciously cosy in all seasons - and two comfy armchairs each with their own reading lamp. Again, you can survey the view - this time from the comfort of your chairs. ( Generous supply of wood for the stove included in the price). The kitchen is superbly equipped ( " more amenities than my house in London", said one delighted visitor) - including original 50's gas stove, microwave, toaster, fridge. And you can watch the sun set as you dine at the kitchen table looking through one of the kitchen's south or west facing windows. The bedroom boasts the full sweep of the view through the picture window at your feet, whilst through the window onto a glade to the east, you can watch songbirds nibble at a bird feeder just four feet from your pillow. The Edwardian boasts its original antique pine polished floor, and exquisite lighting that cleverly mimics the original gas and oil lamps. And at night, with shutters closed and velvet curtains drawn, you could almost imagine yourself travelling in a first class cabin of the Orient Express, complete with exquisite wood panelling and gold stencilling lovingly inscribed onto the ceilings. Adjoining the wagon is its own cedar clad bathroom. Complete with floor to ceiling towel rail to ensure warmth at all times, flushing toilet, tiny Belfast sink ( shaving plug nearby) and its fabulous Moroccan tadelakt-plastered shower - so big that it doesn't need a glass door. And through the eye level window on the shower's eastern wall, you can gaze at another nearby bird feeder, and the woodland glade beyond. Another French door to the west leads onto the wagon's garden, and the fire pit where you can cook superb grilled food on the state-of -the-art Kotlich grill. So you can dine cosily in the kitchen; al fresco at the table on the veranda; or around the garden fire-pit.
