Welcome to The Fells We hope you enjoy your stay with us in this tranquil and relaxing house surrounded by mature trees next to the river Greta which flows through Keswick. The name Greta dates back to the 13th century, meaning “stony stream”. Enjoy a pleasant walk all the way from the house along the river to the other side of the park. Only five-minute walk, you will find the landscape Fitz Park where you can enjoy ‘al fresco’ cafes with beautiful surroundings, tennis courts and The Keswick Museum Next to The Fells you will notice the old Victorian railway line which opened in 1865 and now frequently used by walkers and cyclists linking Keswick to Threlkeld (approx. 3.5 miles one way) It is relatively flat with outstanding natural beauty along the river. On the way you will see the high peak mountains, lovely cascading river Greta and beautiful trees on either side with plenty of wildlife to look out for. You can access the nearest mountain called Latrigg from the start of Spooney Green Lane. This has a fairly steep start but soon reduces to a more pleasant gradient and undulates along a mountain path through woodland. As it opens onto the fellside you will be awarded with lots of photo opportunities! On reaching ‘the bench’ overlooking Derwent Water Lake with Catbells as a backdrop arguably the best view in the whole of the Lake District and topping the summit the satisfaction of completing this exhilarating walk will reward you with 360-degree panoramic views of all the neighbouring mountains including access to the highest mountain in Keswick, Skiddaw. Not far, a ten-minute walk from The Fells you will find Keswick Market Town centre where you will enjoy many outdoor shops and small boutique shops, cafes and a variety of local traditional pubs and restaurants and bakers offering local produce. Market days are Thursdays and Saturdays The Keswick Hotel established 1869, which can be seen from the house offers the nearest restaurant and bar facilities with comfortable seating indoors and outdoors surrounded by beautiful gardens.
