Westport Writer's Cabin at Old Rectory

An Tigín- a small but perfectly formed wooden cabin in the grounds of Old Rectory Retreat.Your writing desk looks through glass doors to its' cottage garden by the stream. It has full kitchen facilities. Living and sleeping areas are semi-separated. The space The Tigín was added to Old Rectory Retreat a few years ago to facilitate writers, artists and anyone looking for her/his/their own intimate space in which to work, inspire themselves, relax or use as a base to explore the countryside for whatever reason. The Tigín is set among trees on the banks of a stream. It's a cottage style wooden cabin with its own garden surrounded by a picket fence. The natural world around is lush and beautiful. The cottage has a surprisingly spacious feel. The interior was lovingly designed and built with great attention to detail, by my amazing sister and her husband in between writing and sewing stints. They know how to make the very most of small spaces. You will have full kitchen facilities and a tiny but beautiful shower room. Sleeping and living areas are partially divided by full length presses. The bed is a small double (4ft wide) sized to suit an individual who likes a bit of body room. Couples who are aware of the size are welcome to stay but not everyone is happy with these close quarters 😊. The cabin has been used in the past mainly by writers but also by artists who wanted to sketch or draw and by musicians writing songs. Also many people have wanted to stay just to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The all important writers desk looks out through large french windows which are south facing or you can take your work outside and listen more closely to the gurgle of the stream. Guest access Guests to The Writer's Cabin have their own wild garden surrounding them. It is totally private to them. Old Rectory Retreat- the Main house - is across the stream but well hidden by willow trees. It's a historic building dating from 1852 now comprising two adjoining homes. The Old KitchenHouse is sometimes is sometimes available to host Writers, artists, musicians and anyone seeking a quiet retreat from 'the madding crowd'. Other things to note There is a minimum stay of one week May to September and of 3 nights October to April.
