River View Cottage is located at the highest point of our hilly estate rising above the left bank of the River Douro. The magnificent views from the balcony will take your breath away! The 200 year old stone cottage has recently been refurbished with all the modern amenities necessary for your comfort. The cottage sits within a fully operational wine & fruit farm offering a first hand view into a local farming operation while enabling rest & relaxation. The space The estate occupies a favoured position on the steeply inclined hillside rising above the left bank of the River Douro; it dates back to the early eighteenth century and has been continuously passed on within the family. The stone walled terraces for the vines, holding the soil and resisting erosion, lie between 200m and 350m above sea level. In addition to wine grapes we enjoy a multitude of seasonal produce - pears, olives, oranges, lemons, cherries, figs, grapefruit, blackberries, walnuts...to name a few! Guest access Visitors are welcome to walk within the estate and there are opportunities for longer walks in the vicinity. According to the season, visitors may join in the work of the estate. Dogs and donkeys share the landscape. Other things to note All the animals on the farm are friendly as long as you respect them & their space. As it is a working farm it is inevitable some movement of people and occasional machines within ear distance. Walking everywhere is fine, even trespassing... Registration Details 67411/AL
