This is the real west, the true west, wide open and (mostly) unspoiled. US 50 was once the Pony Express Trail and the Overland Stage, and the country around Eureka harks back to earlier times. The town of Eureka offers all amenities: restaurants, historical museum, yearly events, year-round in-door swimming, laundry facilities, and brand new grocery store. And you might catch a show at the Eureka Opera House, restored to its former glory. Eureka is almost always sunny, even in the winter. Crime is unheard of.
