Description

Entire renovated 16th Cent. Palazzo in Venice's most exclusive San Marco neighborhood. VeniceTownhouse is an entire four-story Venetian palazzo whose origins date back to about the year 1500. With 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, the 178-square meter house offers privacy from the marble-lined entry floor off a typical Venetian street, up to the rooftop terrace. From there the wonderful panorama includes a glimpse of the Grand Canal, the church and campanile of San Samuele and Palazzo Grassi. The space Original details include two sets of bifora windows divided by marble columns which may have come from the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium) in the 14th or 15th century. Exposed wooden ceiling beams on the parlor and bedroom floors date back to the building's 16th-century origins at the height of the Venetian Republic. A year-long renovation completed in 2021 added a modern kitchen, marble-lined bathrooms, air conditioning, high-speed fiber optic Internet, heating controlled on each floor, video doorbell system, electronic front door lock, and other 21st century amenities. An entire four-story house for rent in Venice's very center is a rare find today. Many generations of merchant families and noblemen have lived here, including members of the well-known Venetian Querini and Zen families in the 19th century. In the early 20th century, the richest family in Venice, the Stuckys, owned the house -- as well as the famous Palazzo Grassi-Stucky on the Grand Canal next door. House Description Ground Floor: Three types of marble and a 17th century wooden chest decorate the elegant lobby floor, whose marble staircase leads to the second floor. A back window overlooks a small courtyard, and pantry space beneath the stairs holds a new washing machine and dryer. Second Floor: The stairs open to the fully equipped 2021 installed kitchen whose sleek modernity is contrasted by the traditional Venetian terrazzo floor, bifora windows and original wooden ceiling beams. A counter in front of the window is the perfect place for breakfast or lunch. A side door from the kitchen leads to the living room, which extends the entire length of the house. Original wooden beams and hardwood floors frame the room, which includes a red marble fireplace to one end. The decor is a mix of antique and modern. The furniture includes a gold and marble Venetian console from 1700, an elegant couch from the 1930s, an antique carpets, two 19th century paintings, and a brand new Armani dining room table, and new Korg G1 Air digital piano. Third Floor: The master bedroom with queen-sized bed (with Frette sheets) has original wooden ceiling beams as well as a series of built-in closets. An in-suite, marble-lined bathroom with bathtub and shower is framed by the bifora windows. The second bedroom with twin bed enjoys wonderful afternoon light and a view over the rooftops of Venice facing towards the back, and has a desk and access to a second marble-lined bathroom with shower. Fourth Floor: A den with a sofa that opens into a bed and a dormer that leads to the rooftop altana. The floor also contains a bathroom and shower. Rooftop Altana: Stairs from the fourth floor lead to a small private altana (rooftop terrace) whose views include a little slice of the Grand Canal; the nearby campanile of the Church of San Samuele; the top of the campaniles of Frari and Santo Stefano churches; the back of the Fenice Theater, Palazzo Grassi, and the back of a row of palazzi lining the Grand Canal. Codice Identificativo Nazionale (CIN) IT027042C2JMTLQBM. Guest access Guests rent the entire house from the entry hall to the rooftop terrace on the fifth floor above overlooking Venice Other things to note Neighborhood Celebrities Some of Venice's most famous historical figures lived and worked within a few blocks of the house.: Casanova Casanova's parents worked as actors in the San Samuele Theater two blocksaway and baby Giacomo was baptized in the San Samuele Church across the street from our house. As a boy he lived directly behind the church (in today's Calle Malipiero). 14-year-old Casanova served as a young priest at San Samuele and gave his first sermon there, but soon decided his interests lay elsewhere. In his teen years Casanova lived in in Campo San Samuele (in the famous Palazzo Malipiero) and he enjoyed his first love affair a few houses down from our house. Titian The greatest Venetian painter of the Renaissance, Titian kept his studio and lived in the San Samuele area from 1513 to 1531, preparing several works for the Doge's Palace during this time. Titian's paintings are located across Venice, including at the Accademia Gallery, a seven-minute walk away, and his "Assumption of the Virgin” the Frari Church, one vaporetto station away on the other side of the Grand Canal. Our houses's back bedroom and rooftop terrace can see the top of the Frari Campanile. Veronese One of the great masters of 16th century Venetian painting, Paolo Veronese lived a few houses down the block later in his life and died there in 1588. His famous painting Feast in the House of Levi is located in the Accademia Gallery a short walk or one vaporetto stop away. Many other painters, sculptors, architects and great thinkers lived in the area, including Tulio Lombardo, who revived classical sculpture in Venice, and philosopher Giordano Bruno, who helped pave the way for modern philosophy and science by imaging an infinite universe. But he was arrested in Venice and eventually killed as a heretic. Registration Details IT027042C2JMTLQBMY
