Bessie's Cabin with a View
Bessie's Cabin showcases a gorgeous view of Baxter and Hurricane Mountains (among others). Its location provides both privacy and easy access to town. Local restaurants are a short drive or there is a full kitchen if you prefer to stay in and cook yourself. Wi-fi and local television provided should you tire of the view. This space is open and cheerful. There is a lovely view and easy access to all the town and the Adirondacks have to offer. There is a propane grill for cooking, along with a full kitchen and basic cooking equipment. Looking for something else? Ask us and we might be able to help you. I own and operate the Cedar Run Bakery & Market located just down the road and my husband works for himself as a caretaker for various private homes in the area. We live on the property. We are accessible if you need us, but will leave you to yourself otherwise. Our dogs may visit you while you are outside and the younger one is likely going to bark at you until she gets to know you (we can/will keep them inside if this becomes a problem). If you are skittish of dogs this is not the rental for you as our dogs are large and want to get to know you. They are loving and friendly and a big part of our lives; we want you to know ahead of time that they live here too. The town of Keene (which includes the hamlets of Keene Valley and St. Hubert's) is made most special by its breathtaking views; but this tourism driven town has more to offer than the eye beholds. While you are here there are countless sites for taking in the beauty. Check out climbing guides before your stay and plan your first forty-sixer hike, or take a drive up Whiteface Memorial Highway and skip the hike for the easy view! Keene is truly the heart of the high peaks and is referred to as the gateway to the Olympic village of Lake Placid; this makes Keene the perfect place to stay when you want to visit Lake Placid, but don't want the crowd. Keene's location makes your day in the Olympic Village as easy as a trip to the jaw dropping AuSable Chasm, High Falls Gorge, Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, or the Wild Center (all highly recommended attractions in the area). There are great shops to check out right here in town that offer unique rustic furnishings, housewares, clothing, and much more. During summer months, the farmers market is a must; it features local farm produce, cheeses and artisan crafts from all over the area. Looking to take in a show? Check out what's happening at the Recovery Lounge in Upper Jay, The Ward Theatre in Jay, or the Lake Placid Center for the Arts in Lake Placid. This town is so unique it is difficult to sum up all of its attractions. Repeat visits are necessary! There is no public transportation from this location.
