100 yds from the beach, the cozy MERMAID SWEET awaits you and is well suited for a young family or 2-3 adult friends. This artsy basement open studio space includes a private entrance, kitchenette, unique art & a cozy reading/sleeping nook! Enjoy beautiful sunsets from the upstairs deck or use the sun room on rainy days. BBQ on the grill. Visit local restaurants, shops & galleries. Hike wooded trails & swim by sandy, dune-grass beaches. . House-trained dogs welcome! Sorry no cats (allergies) This private 400 sq ft basement open-studio space can accommodate 2-3 (4 max) adults or a couple with small children. There is a queen size bed, a pull-out full size sofa, and a twin bed. The neighborhood is safe, the neighbors are friendly and Lake Michigan beaches and dunes are about 100 yards away. Just walk down the street, under the trees and over the dune. You will have your own fully stocked (pots & utensils) kitchenette, bathroom and private entrance off the two car driveway for you and your guests to park. There is a walk-up outside deck with lake views. You may also use the private sun room off the deck when it’s raining. We are dog lovers, and allow dogs that are well behaved. Sorry no cats due to allergies. (Though we also love cats. :) Note: we live above the basement and though we do our best to be quiet, we do have a dog who may, on occasion, bark. You may also hear us walking or floor boards squeaking. In terms of us hearing guests- we rarely do and even if we did we wouldn’t mind. We welcome the sound of music and children having fun and even baby cries. It all makes us smile. There are beach towels and chairs, an umbrella, beach toys for young kids and a wagon in the garage. The outdoor shower will remove sand from your feet and pets. There is a pet towel on the inside hall hook. There is also a small table with a couple chairs (and an ashtray) outside the door. Smoking anything, anywhere outside, is fine by us. There is plenty of parking either in your private driveway (two cars) or in front of the house. Access entry via the lockpad on the gray door next to the garage door with the code - which will be sent to you by 11 am on the morning of your arrival. Your privacy will be respected but we are available should you need us. We’re pretty busy, so more than likely, we may not even meet each other. Miller Beach is a neighborhood within Gary, IN, which has a rich history as a Steel Mill town. Though it has suffered economically over the past several decades, the people here are working hard to turn it around. We moved to Miller nine years ago because it's beautiful and diverse in ethnicity, religion, politics and gender identification. We are proud to live in a community that treasures individual freedom. We are steel workers, artists, political activists and beach-lovers. We welcome you to our eclectic little community. Beach access is right down our street - under the trees and over the dune! *It’s easy to make a trip into Chicago on the South Shore Train from Miller to Millennium Park. It takes 75 min. (45 min by car) and a ticket is $7.50 one way. Download the orange icon ‘south shore line’ app to review the schedule and to buy tickets - or visit online website: mysouthshoreline The train station is at the corner of Lake Street and hwy 12. * Miller Station closed until renovations end sometime in 2023. Buses run between Miller & Gary station. Parking east of McDonalds. Lake Street has shops and restaurants. Shelby street has a couple restaurants and is a walkable distance. Coffee and tea are provided. There is creamer, and a variety of sweeteners. Before you leave, please remove all opened food and wash or leave dirty dishes in the sink. Please don’t pour grease in the sink or toilet. Use a can, jar or sop up grease with paper towel and throw into the garbage. There is a Smart TV where you may log into your streaming services. No underage drinking will be tolerated. Absolutely no firearms allowed inside or on the property.
