Description
The Old Hayloft is a sympathetically renovated self-contained annex to our home. Guests have their own entrance and private garden. Set over two floors, the Old Hayloft offers spacious living and sleeping areas, a cosy kitchen with electric oven & hob and a fully fitted bathroom with separate bath & shower. Situated less than 10 minutes’ drive from Glastonbury and Street, 15 mins from Wells, in a pretty village. The nature reserves at Ham Wall, Shapwick Heath and Westhay Moor are nearby. The space Guests have their own private apartment with large living and sleeping areas, spacious en suite bathroom and well appointed kitchen. There is a private garden at the rear and free parking for one car on the driveway (shared with owner) at the front. The Old Hayloft is located in the lovely village of Meare, just four miles from Glastonbury and six miles from Street and Wells. There are many picturesque walks in the village, which is situated between the Mendip and Polden hills, affording stunning views. We are five minutes’ drive from RSPB Ham Wall, and national nature reserves Shapwick Heath and Westhay Moor. Marsh Harriers, Great White Egrets and Bitterns are regularly seen here along with otters, waders and the famous winter starling murmurations (Nov - Feb). You can see the starlings gathering in the village and they often congregate in our garden! There is a farm shop a short drive away, several takeaways who deliver to us and a cafe and pub within half an hour’s quiet walk (reopening late 2023). Guest access Guests have their own self-contained apartment with private entrance and enclosed garden (next to owner’s garden with opaque fencing). Other things to note Local pub now open, serving great food suitable for all dietary needs, Wednesday - Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtime. 30 minutes’ (2.5km) flat, pretty walk. Wellies and wet weather gear are advisable in winter so you can make the most of what the area has to offer. We have young children but the sound insulation is quite good between our properties so we hope you won’t hear too much from them! Likewise the cottage is next to a ‘B’ road, being an agricultural community there are tractors and other traffic. Many guests have said that the sound insulation is good and we do provide fans which can be used instead of having the windows open in the warmer months.
