Welcome to your home away from home in Bar Harbor while visiting Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. This cozy, affordable getaway retreat offers superior privacy in a bucolic rural, setting. Spectacular sunset views and a central location only minutes to trails, carriage road bike paths, and downtown shops and restaurants. Sunday to Saturday only rental for enhanced cleaning. There is covered bicycle storage, a fire pit, free use of canoe, paddles, life jackets and car topping gear. The space Step inside and admire the rugged cedar and hemlock beams that reach high to the pine board ceiling in the living area. Large windows and a full-size patio door look out over ancient apple trees and a small meadow were white-tailed deer and snowshoe hares stop by. Whip o' wills and woodcock can be heard at dusk and frequently the call of coyotes reaches up from the nearby stream valley. At night the stars shine brighter than anywhere else on the East Coast. Our "Tribal Council" area sports an Adirondak Leanto, fire pit with wood, running water and a picnic table along our 400-foot nature trail. The cottage has a fully-equipped kitchenette that includes a two-burner gas cooktop, microwave oven, toaster, coffee maker, full-size refridgerator/freezer, compact sink, dishes, glasses, mugs, utensils, pots and pans. There is no oven but there is a gas grill out on the porch/patio where there is a table and chairs for relaxing outdoors. Overhead there is a reading loft. The cottage is also stocked with field guides, maps, books and videos about the area's natural and human history. The cottage has free wireless broadband internet, a 14-inch LCD Smart TV, with 200 cable channels, apps for your streaming services and a DVD and VCR player. There are coloring books and videos for children. A Pack n' Play is available at no charge. There is good cellular telephone signal from the property. The Carriage House Cottage at Westard Farm comes fully furnished with everything you need for a relaxing, memorable stay. Our central location is perfect for launching your hiking, biking, wildlife watching or paddling trips. The cottage is located approximately 150 feet from the main private residence on land that was once a family farm. There is an unattached garage in between. The clean, airy cabin includes a living room with gas log fireplace, a futon sofa/bed, chairs and a dining table and TV. There is a high-efficiency heat pump that warms, dehumidifies, and air conditions the main areas. The ground floor bedroom has a queen-size bed and bureau, hanging space for clothes, as well as a ceiling fan. There is also a ceiling fan in the living area and portable fans as well. The bedroom also has its own direct-vent propane heater. The bathroom has a vanity sink, toilet and shower with plenty of hot water and an electric heater. One set of linens and towels are provided for the week. For your outdoor adventures there's a day pack, umbrella, hiking sticks, portable cooler and headlamp. There is also a canoe, paddles, life jackets and car topping gear. There is covered outdoor bike storage with an outlet for recharging eBikes (bring your charger). Portable air compressor available. Firewood is provided at the Tribal Council area. Note: It is illegal to bring out of state firewood into Maine to control invasive insects. Note: due to local regulations we rent for full weeks only, Sunday to Saturday. Local rental permit VR1R25-l2 Guest access Guests have the exclusive use of the cottage, and are welcome to use the rest of the two-acre property including the 400-foot nature trail, "tribal council" picnic area with campfire pit (wood provided), picnic table, and patio lights, along with an AT-style leanto and seasonal running water. In fall, help yourself to the delicious, organic apples from our more than a dozen heirloom trees. Other things to note Maine has a returnable beverage container law and Bar Harbor was one of the first towns in Maine to ban plastic bags at grocery stores and other retail locations. The cottage has containers for recycling and returnables, as well as some reusable shopping bags for those trips to the supermarket which is just 3.5 miles away. Registration details R2021-158
