Cosy uplands getaway, country walking
Cosy uplands getaway, country walking
Description
Millers Cottage at St Peters; a charming heritage stone cottage in the heart of the North Pennines. Romantically situated below heather grouse moors and uplands sheep farms within one of the UK's few designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, AONB. The Allen Valleys offer a break from city life and have an abundance of birdlife in season by day, with truly dark, star-filled skies by night. The space Cosy sitting room with wood burning stove (logs not supplied) and bistro dining table for two, split-level open plan living with sitting room below and spacious bedroom with en suite above. Separate modern kitchen with induction hob, Nespresso coffee machine and electric oven. UK king-sized bed, thermostatic shower, and large study desk. Carefully selected original artworks from local artists reflecting the beauty of the landscape outside. Guest access The entire house with outdoor space to the front for sitting and eating, but unfortunately no back garden. The log burner is not supplied with logs, but your nearest supplier of bagged logs and kindling is the Co-Op in Allendale, just 4 miles away. Other things to note The cottage is centrally heated with cast iron radiators thermostatically controlled by you; the cost is included in the price. The log burner is laid for your arrival, and a few logs on the hearth for your first evening. the Co-op in Allendale stocks logs and kindling should you want to use the burner more during your stay. Linen is provided and the bed will be made up, with two sets of towels for the shower room. There is good wifi broadband internet. There is no reception for broadcast TV, but there is a smart television with DVD player and a separate CD music player, and your digital music player can be paired with the tv bluetooth sound-bar. The location is remote and restful, ideally situated for picturesque walks and cycling. The cottage is nestled within the complex of heritage Grade II listed buildings, historically the centre of daily life at the hamlet of Sparty Lea with its grain mill and church. The church is now a one-bedroom holiday let, and the immediate neighbours to Millers Cottage are the owners of Corn Mill Farm House. The farm is not a fully working one, but during the springtime lambing season, the farmer makes routine visits, sometimes at night, but even then, apart from the coming and going, his work is not in the immediate vicinity of the cottage. Close by, there are many heritage sites such as Killhope Mining Museum and Hexham Abbey, and the Historic towns of Corbridge, Alston, Hexham and Barnard Castle. There are many other days-out destinations within car reach, including the Northeast coastline, the Northern side of the Lake District, Cumbria, and the Roman Wall. Please let me know if you are bringing a dog. We try to be flexible, but the space is not suitable for large dogs. There are also a couple of things you need to be ok with, first that there is no guard across the log burner and due to the cottage being surrounded by fields with sheep and the gardens with my cats, dogs would need to be kept on their lead at all times while walking in the immediate vicinity.
