The Cob Barn is an enchanting forest retreat set on the northern slopes of Mt Arthur in north east Tasmania. Watch a DVD, read a book, play board games, listen to music through the bluetooth speaker, strum the guitar, or just sit in silence watching the play of flames in the fire…just wind down, breathe and…..relax. If it’s bright and sunny, when you wake after a restful night on beautiful linen, look out the bedroom windows at the shimmer of morning light across the water, then sit up at the breakfast bench watching the day unfold across the valley as you enjoy a fresh baked cob loaf, free range eggs, and espresso coffee. Go exploring on the forest walk, sit out on the deck in the sun listening to the birds and the wind in the trees, go boating on the pond, or relax in a steamy hot outdoor bath hidden behind a spiral cob wall. At night, sit around a glowing fire pit under the stars, listening to the frogs in the pond and owls in the forest. And although The Cob Barn is the perfect place to switch off from the digital world, you’ll also find that you have access to Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi for free, if you need a dose of Netflix......so we’ll leave your connectivity up to you. When you arrive, the key will be in the lockbox and the fire set. Make yourselves at home....All that's left to do is enjoy! Guest access There is an easy guests walking track through the temperate rainforest behind The Cob Barn. You can walk beneath giant manferns, Blackwoods, Sassafras, Mountain Ash, Dogwood and Musk. The track follows a circular path up the slope beside a mountain stream, then back down to The Cob Barn through changing forest glades. The Cob Barn is a Quality Tourism Accredited Business (QTAB) by The Australian Tourism Industry Council. We have gained Level 2 - Sustainable Tourism Accreditation and Level 4 - EcoStar Accreditation which provides visitors with an assurance that our business has a proven commitment to not only the highest quality of service but also to sound and sustainable environmental management. The Cob Barn is a 45 minute drive from Launceston airport. We are located just 6km from Lilydale. Please be aware that the last 3km is a winding gravel road through the forest. It's a bit narrow but has a good surface which is fine for both 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive vehicles, so drive slowly, look out for wallabies, kangaroos, quolls..... and enjoy the view. Guests are provided with delicious breakfast provisions including free range eggs from our chickens, a cob loaf (of course), berry/oat Granola and yoghurt, tea, espresso coffee and more. Bathrobes and electric blankets are provided. Heating is provided by a wood heater. An ability to operate a slow combustion wood heater is necessary. Check-in is anytime after 2pm and checkout is by 11am.
