The space This is a mid century shack style home set on the edge of the village of American River a water side hamlet ideal for walking fishing and boating..my home is set back within the trees high on a hilltop within a very natural environment. You will enjoy complete privacy with a green rural outlook through the tree tops and enjoy wonderful sunsets as it faces the setting sun....we love it here for the nature surrounds you and bathes you in a beautiful light in the afternoon.. Here you are tucked away, high in the treetops, in the relaxed comfort of fresh modern decor within a retro shack typical of the classic 70s holiday homes in south Australia. We hope to provide you with a heartfelt place to call home for your stay on kangaroo island. We think its creative, natural and it’s simple earthiness makes It a place to connect, relax, read, cook, walk, rest, and go SLOW... explore the garden, bushland and take walks down along the river front to a deck cafe in the village of American River. Explore the pelican lagoon walking trails to Pennington Bay.. with many more local and hidden natural treasures and beaches not to far away. ENJOY! Guest access You have private and exclusive access to our shack home sitting high on a hill above the village of American river... the house is a simple mid century style home set back at the end of a no through rd overlooking a wooded native reserve. The home is on the second level overlooking trees with glimpses of the river and sea. Below is an outdoor veranda carport with rugged grounds inviting you to sit around the camp fire. Our home is in an ideal location to walk to the deck cafe and wharf yet extremely private with room to breath and truely be alone, were set well back off a no through rd so you feel completely away within nature and yet close to walk down to a small store, local oyster farm and cafes for great coffee and good food. At Sunrise Sunset We have free range chickens that will greet you upon arrival and gift you with breakfast... we are also soon to complete our veggie garden for fresh salad and herbs ... The nature is all around you here as we host a number of rare glossy blacks in our gum trees and are home to birdlife, a koala and wallabies who will hop around freely at dusk and dawn. I’m committed to providing you with a quality stay yet homely get away and I am always available to share information about the house and area so you get the best out of your stay on ki. The house is completely private... we are respectful of guests needs and hope to provide you with many extra personal touches to make you feel at home and comfortable throughout your stay.. We love our humble home and seek to live simply and close to nature. We seek to create a wonderful place for you to relax unwind and enjoy together while visiting KI. The two small decks both front and back are great for having breakfast and in the evening enjoying a wine while watching the sunset. The large native backyard has many areas to sit and enjoy an open fire. ( weather / fire season permitting). There are many paths to walk, and you are in an ideal location to further explore the village of American river and drive to the many attractions around the island ... here at Sunrise Sunset nature surrounds with trees, wallabies, a koala, echidnas and rare birds may cross your path during your stay.. Enjoy. Other things to note In winter Pack warm socks or slippers as no shoes inside. I provide some house slippers and socks if you forget. There are fire places all set for you to light and enjoy.. check weather conditions for no wind and fire bans ... ensure fire is fully out and covered before leaving it unattended.. there is now an indoor wood stove and other heating options not requiring wood.. guests wanting a wood fire are requiresd to provide there own bag of seasoned split wood.. we provide kindling paper and fire starter and matches. We offer complimentary rubber boots for you to borrow for walks in the garden or on wet days in winter.. if staying in summer pack the togs as I’ve some beach towels, mats and sun hats boogie boards and umbrella ready for you to use and a list of beaches to visit... there is also a picnic hamper and wine carrier and cool packs for long days on the rd and beach trips.
