Charming 1908 Schoolhouse & Headmasters Quarters

Situated in the beautiful Waitaki Valley our peaceful haven will have you feeling like you have turned back the clock to simpler times. Your seperate accommodation is the old Otekaieke School nestled amongst our grove of hazelnut and walnut trees. Enjoy tranquil views overlooking farmland and the St Mary ranges. Our Wiltshire sheep graze lazily in the paddock, the chorus of birdsong and the occasional cackle of our chickens proudly announcing your eggs have been laid for breakfast will delight. The space The old world charm of this unique building will enchant you. The original 1970s headmasters office, staffroom and toilets have been tastefully updated to create a private and welcoming space to relax and enjoy. This area adjoins the original 1908 Schoolhouse where you can hide away with a good book, a glass of wine and enjoy the lovely natural light and views to the farmland and hills. We have also just completed renovations on the adjoining classroom which provides guests with the option of an additional 4 single beds and family space to relax and share a meal around a big farmhouse style table. This is a warm and comfy area which will bring back many school day memories. Guest access Guests are welcome to wander the avenues of hazelnuts or find a quiet spot in the woodlot to relax with the sounds of nature. We also have a hot water outdoor shower that overlooks our sheep paddocks and Mt Domett, a fun and refreshing way to clean up after a bike ride or walk along the river. Other things to note Whilst we don't offer WiFi or television we do have excellent Spark 4G coverage. We have additional accommodation available in our quaint little church just 300m away. Please enquire if you would like more information. The schoolhouse and classroom are also available for small groups who would like to host a special event. We can cater for workshops, yoga retreats, artisans, family gatherings or even a small intimate wedding. We are happy to discuss any thoughts you may have. With advanced notice we can also provide you with an evening meal or packed lunch and have bottles of local wine and beer available to accompany your dining.
