This private suite allows you to submerse yourself in a quiet bohemian getaway – slip into bed after taking a warm bath in this high desert New Mexico retreat. Relax, meditate, or simply nap in the hammock in the interior courtyard next to the shade tree and wall fountain pond with goldfish. Stargaze, or enjoy the mountain view from the property of the main house with a coffee or cocktail. Maybe catch a glimpse of the bobcat, deer or the wild horses of Placitas – all are regulars in the area. The space Euphemistically referred to as the 'Bathhouse', this cozy, romantic, open plan private guest suite is ideal for a single or couple to sleep, relax, and recharge while exploring New Mexico. A mere 275sq ft., this guest suite has everything you could need in-between adventures. As you pull up and park at this organic modern residence, follow your ears to the sound of trickling water at the entrance waterfall wall. The private entrance to the guest quarters is to the right of the waterfall wall and immediately adjacent to the parking lot. Entering your suite, to the left is the kitchenette and to the right is the room featuring a claw foot tub near the foot of the queen sized bed. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea (provided in your room) while re-heating treats from one of the local eateries. Microwave, toaster and coffee maker are all available as well as a small fridge with a tiny ice cube tray will which can hold your wines, sodas, and New Mexico green chili treats. Central to the suite is a deep white porcelain claw foot tub just feet from the queen sized bed with cotton linens, and allergy free down alternative comforter. Please note we are not suited to host guests traveling with pets for a number of reasons, one of which is the emotional distress it puts on our pets when there are other animals on the property. We kindly have to decline guests traveling with pets. Bath salt with dried lavender buds (and ‘Mr. Bubble’ : )) are provided for your enjoyment (Note: we are on well water here and the water can occasionally have a slight sulfury scent when filling the tub- but a little Mr. Bubble or Bath Salt with Lavender handles that nicely). Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and robes are all provided. Full disclosure: this isn’t a stand up shower, so tuck in the shower curtain, have a seat and shower ‘cowboy style’ - or just slow down, relax, and take a bath. There are USB jacks, very fast Wi-Fi, and a 32” smart tv in the room that will pick up your Netflix/Hulu/Google Play etc. Recently tested download speed: 131.6 Mbps download, 4.76 Mbps upload. About the hosts: This place has the design factor you may be looking for. Tova is an artist and college instructor. Max is an architect and who studied at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, Taliesin West, and mentored with the famous New Mexico architect Bart Prince. The guest room you'll be staying in, as well as the rest of the entire house and property was designed and built by Max. Inside the main house, the kitchen features a brick oven. During cooler months, Max and Tova host pizza parties frequented by local and international artists and architects. At a recent pizza party internationally renowned local architect, Antoine Predock, casually referred to the house as, “badass” – so, we think you’ll like it too. In fact, if you're staying here and happen to catch one of the pizza parties, you are naturally invited to come across the courtyard to the main house and enjoy some pizza with us and meet new people. Max is a long time resident of Placitas. At a separate location in Placitas, he helped restore and manage his family's 19th Century Bed and Breakfast, 'Hacienda de Placitas'. Fun fact: Max's old family B&B (just 2 miles from your guest room here at the studio) was later featured in the hit show 'Breaking Bad' as Don Eladio’s estate. If you are into the slow food movement and you know the hygge lifestyle, then our guest suite and Placitas are for you. Our friends and a few select visitors have enjoyed the ‘bathhouse’ for a couple years now, and we are now sharing that “romantic, bohemian retreat” with you. Guest access There is a Central Courtyard and a paved terrace on the South side of the house that has fantastic views of the Sandia Mountains - just follow the sidewalk from your room around the house and have a seat anywhere you like. Great sunset and stargazing area. Placitas has a Starry Night policy- skies are amazing here at night! Other things to note NOTE: Use caution outside in areas of the house that are still under construction - for instance, the addition outside the Guest Quarters' entrance is being worked on currently but construction noise will be scheduled when guests are not present.
