Description

Needing an escape? Fresh air, nature and space? Enjoy lazy days by the millpond in Miller's Hut at an organic stoneground flour mill. You'll find corners to retreat to and a quirky field kitchen. Stroll up to Shaftesbury, famed for cobbled Gold Hill and the Hovis ad, or hunker down by the millpond, breathing deep sighs and letting stresses fall away. Later settle in for dinner lit by candles and a spot of star gazing. It's magical staying under a tin roof in nature! Best prices direct. The space My husband's family have been milling since eighteen-thirty-two and his father started out on his own at Cann Mills in nineteen-forty-seven. Cann Mills was recorded in the Domesday Book and one of five mills within a mile on the River Sturkel, a tributary to the River Stour. We produce organic stoneground flour using French Burr millstones primarily driven by a late 19th Century iron waterwheel that is fed by the millpond. Not just for shepherds, Miller's Hut sleeps two and has beautiful millpond views. The comfortable bed is a small double dressed in a pretty William Morris design. The little cupboard is stocked with tea and coffee making essentials. Why not light a fire in the fire pit, sizzle some sausages on the tripod and grill and chase stars under our exceptionally dark night skies (wood is provided to get you started). We have outdoor chairs, rugs, cushions and lanterns for your use, so you can relax in comfort and enjoy your surroundings. FIELD KITCHEN We're sure our hutters will love our field kitchen ~ quirky with a wonderful patina ~ a few strides from the hut. Totally transformed from a lambing shed into a rustic space, it has a table and chairs as well as an area to prepare food. Equipped with crockery, small fridge, two stove gas hob, hob kettle, toaster and further cooking equipment/utensils, as well as store cupboard essentials such as tea, coffee, sugar, oil and salt & pepper, and a string of lights. Washing up is available here, though you'll have to boil the kettle! Pure spring water for drinking and cooking is in the 8L Kilner glass water dispenser and there's a tap in the mill yard for a refill (again pure spring water). Outside the field kitchen is a fire pit and an outdoor table with chairs. There are also tables and chairs under the willow tree and dotted around the millpond. Lots of corners to escape to! A couple of minutes from the hut and situated in the mill yard is a bright and clean washroom with a flushing loo and hot shower. A hairdryer and bath towels are provided for your stay. These facilities are shared with John's Hut guests if you've booked two huts together. Otherwise the whole site is for you to enjoy. The important stuff~ Check in: after 4pm Check out: 11am  We suggest that you bring heavy boots if it's soggy under foot and a head torch (we do provide a torch). The hut is well lit and has an exterior light by the door. ----------------------------------- ADDITIONAL INFORMATION A folder with housekeeping/local tips is in each hut and welcome literature will be sent to you on booking so that you can plan your stay. -------------------------- OPTIONAL EXTRAS: WOOD BUNDLE £5 Should you require extra, wood bundles for the fire pit and Salamander stove are £5/bucket each. (We respectfully ask that you don't use wood specially cut for the stove in the firepit.) BREAKFAST £15 for two/night Enjoy breakfast fare; an organic loaf of bread, butter and preserves, Dorset cereals with Greek yoghurt to accompany, organic milk, juice and ground coffee. Enjoy some Miller's Huts Dorset R&R! -------- ***STRICTLY NO PARTIES*** Miller's Hut or John's Hut (or booked together to sleep 2-4). If one hut is booked we make the other unavailable to guarantee your privacy. For more pictures of the huts, take a look at: Insta: @millershutsdorset Our hutters then have exclusive use of the site. We request a prompt 11am departure please. Guest access The hut and immediate environs are for your use. There is guest parking at the end of the mill yard. The loo and shower room are located off the mill yard. Unfortunately, we can't allow you on or in the millpond (the water isn't deep but the mud is and there are no fish). Other things to note ***STRICTLY NO PARTIES*** ***NO DISPOSABLE BBQS ON THE GRASS*** Unfortunately the hut isn't suitable for very young children or babies. We are close to the A350.
