Description

Croesor Bach is a traditional Welsh farmhouse in the upper part of the beautiful Croesor valley, sitting on the slopes of Cnicht about 1/2 mile above the village itself in a completely rural setting with amazing views of the countryside in all directions. The cottage dates from the 18th century and retains many period farm house features: thick stone walls, huge open fireplace (initial supply of logs), a bread oven and oil-fired Stanley range. The space Each room has its own character. The Stanley range cooker is the fiery heart of the kitchen, providing cosy warmth and interest (the induction hob is easier for cooking though - use the Stanley for central heating and oven). The sitting room has a huge fireplace - very evocative of centuries past, not actually very effective for heating (use the central heating instead!). The dining room is a quiet place to read, with an extensive library of our favourite books. The cottage has been thoughtfully equipped with an American-style fridge-freezer, induction hob, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier, full fibre broadband, smart TV and John Lewis pocket-sprung mattresses on all beds. Outdoors there is just the quiet murmuring of the stream as it runs down the length of the valley, baaa-ing of sheep (what would Wales be without sheep?); dark and starry skies at night with the occasional glow-worm. The steam locomotives on the Ffestiniog railway can also be heard tooting occasionally in the distance.. Surrounded by countryside, you can explore the valley via a variety of footpaths or climb the mountain straight from the cottage. Local attractions include Portmeirion (6 miles) & Beddgelert (8 miles), Porthmadog and Criccieth. Many guests come to climb Snowdon (11 miles by road to the Watkin path car park) or visit ZipWorld (10 miles). Guest access The whole house is for guests' use, but not the external workshop. Other things to note Please ignore the AI-generated "10 minute drive to Snowdonia National Park". The cottage is actually in the National Park. Whilst the cottage can sleep 9 (in 3 double + 3 single beds) it is worth noting that there is only 1 bathroom. Conversely half of our bookings are for 5 or fewer guests, sometimes only 1 or 2: the cottage can be cosy for small parties as well as large groups. We now have 150 MBit/s fibre broadband (a huge improvement on the old satellite system) and a "smart" 43" TV. The drive up to the cottage has just been resurfaced - see exterior photographs.
