“The Old Merchant House” is a stunning, iconic, grade A listed property sitting immediately on the harbour front in Portsoy and is located on the Moray Firth coastal footpath and National Cycle Route 1. The property has a date stone of 1726 and was originally the home of Alexander (Laird) Brebner, a famous merchant and renowned smuggler. The house featured in the 2016 remake of the film "Whisky Galore". More recently the house featured prominently in the latest TV series of Peaky Blinders. The space The house is within a short drive of some of the most beautiful beaches on the Moray coast, such as Sandend and Cullen. The Moray Coast is renowned for having a relatively mild climate and an abundance of wildlife including seals, dolphins and many species of birds. The Old Merchant House has a large lounge / dining room with amazing sea and harbour views, an 18th-Century fireplace, kitchen, three bedrooms (two doubles, one twin), two bathrooms, entrance hall and utility room. There is a large storage room which can be used for bikes, canoes etc The seaside town of Portsoy is a historic place with its own harbours and some spectacular scenery in and around the town. A variety of local shops can be found within the town centre including, post office, supermarket, bakeries, banking facilities, restaurants, cafés, pubs and award-winning ice cream shop. Directly behind the house is the charming Port House Cafe and on the harbour, a short walk away is a very welcoming pub, the Shore Inn. Other things to note Up to two well behaved dogs are allowed.
