The Loft at The Volland Store

The Loft is on the second floor, overlooking the art gallery of The Volland Store. At night, unless there is an event open to the public, you have the gallery to yourself. Guests tell us it feels like "a night at the museum." The Volland Store is in an official dark zone. The skies are full of stars - and if you plan it right, there is a full moon. Truly a rural retreat in the heart of the Flint Hills. Coffee is provided, but bring something for breakfast. No pets please. Thank you. The space The Loft is located in a historic general store that has been re-purposed as an art gallery, an events venue, and a community gathering place. The Volland Store sits in a working landscape midway between two small towns in the heart of the Flint Hills. Coffee is provided, but bring something for breakfast if you’re not inclined to make an eight-mile trek for ham and eggs. For restaurant options and hours of operation, please visit the Host Guidebook. Sunday options for restaurants are limited. Internet reception is good. However, cell service is problematic. U.S. Cellular is the preferred provider in the area, but for other providers, a drive to the top of a nearby hill usually works. You won’t find all the conveniences of an urban environment; you will find something better. Bring your sense of wonder and discovery and a desire for a unique experience. The Volland Store is a Place for Art and Community. Normal operating hours are 1-4pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and there are occasional events that draw a crowd to the Store. Please visit our website (Happenings>Current Happenings) to see the events that may be occurring during your stay. You are welcome to attend any of our events or gatherings! Guest access You will have access to the art gallery, the full kitchen (including oven) on the gallery level, a patio outside the entry door, and 27 acres of prairie and meadow, and a walking trail through the woods that border the property. Country roads are good for hiking, and the gravel roads are ideal for gravel-riding cyclists. Please note that commercial activities by guests are not allowed in the Loft, in the Volland Store building, or on the grounds of the Volland Store. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Other things to note There is no TV, nor is there a microwave. There is an oven available for your use, in the kitchen on the gallery level. Internet service is good. U.S. Cellular is the best carrier for cell service. Other carriers may be problematic. We suggest you download driving directions and door codes from your phone before leaving home. You may not be able to access cell service as you draw near to Volland. No pets please. Thank you.
