Description

Banksia Cabin is nestled behind the dunes of Dolphin Sands, with direct access to the ocean beach and stunning views of the Hazards and Freycinet Peninsula. It is the perfect location for a rustic retreat from the hectic pace of life. Stroll the golden sands of Nine Mile Beach, watch the weather roll by, gaze at the starry skies, enjoy cosy evenings cooking with family and friends, and fall asleep to the sound of waves on the shore. Swim in the sea or the warmer waters of the Swan River. The space Banksia Cabin is actually several cabins. It's charming, creative and cosy, reminiscent of childhood holidays and simpler times. The Main Cabin houses the living, dining and kitchen with a bathroom. There's a gas heater inside and at the flick of a switch it looks just like a wood fire, without the hassle of firewood. The Sleeping Cabin is situated a couple of meters along the deck from the Main Cabin, with shutters and portholes, and is divided into 2 areas and ideally sleeps 2-3, either in the sublimely comfy queen bed or double. A bathroom with a toilet and a cast iron bath is situated inside the Main Cabin. The other bathroom is accessed via a timber decked walkway from the Main Cabin and contains a shower, toilet, washing machine and trough sink. So please note that there are no en suites and that a trip to the toilet in the night involves leaving your cabin. You will be blown away by the stars so it's really quite nice. The kitchen area is compact but there are good quality pots and pans, utensils, cutlery and crockery. The range has gas hobs and an electric convection oven. There is a long wooden table for lazy lunches and candles in bottles for cozy dinner conversations. A toasted sandwich maker is great for a quick snack and there is a toaster, stove top espresso pot and a vacuum for little messes. Fridge space is adequate but not huge, so a midweek shop for week long stayers might be a good idea. The design of Banksia Cabin is to maximise your relaxation by interaction with the outdoors, a comfortable step up from camping. If you need to do a load of washing, feel free. Washing powder is provided and there's an inside clothes rack for smalls and a Hill's Hoist clothes line outside. Guest access Guests can access the main living cabin, sleeping cabin and laundry/shower cabin and of course the 2 hectares of land which fronts Nine Mile Beach, separated only by a sand dune. Due to shifting sands the direct beach access involves a bit of climb, for easier access please use the path to the right of the driveway. There's also a shed, an old caravan and another cabin on the land though these are not set up for guests to access. Other things to note Banksia cabin is a rustic shack, and amenities are down to earth...which is part of its charm. Linen and towels are provided...please contact us via airbnb/phone if more are required during your stay. The water supply is from Artesian bore which pumps into the big pale green tank by the shed. It may be slightly discoloured. It's fine for washing, and showering but it is NOT DRINKING WATER. For drinking water we strongly suggest you bring your own. In case of dire need there's an urn with a high quality filtration system. It’s bright orange and hard to miss! Top this up from the rainwater tank next to the clothes line and the water coming out should be fine to drink after passing through the filter. The water takes an hour or so to pass through the orange urn's filter it so top it up regularly as you go. Please do not put anything other than this rainwater from the small tank into the urn, especially no detergent. If you wish to be absolutely safe, boil it prior to drinking. Please don't use the water from the small rainwater tank by the clothesline for anything else other than the urn. The best option is really to bring your own drinking water. On extremely cold mornings the water supply has been known to freeze until the sun comes out... though this is rare! The beds in the sleeping cabin are separated by a wall partition only but no door. There's electricity, though that section of the East Coast of Tasmania does experience blackouts several times a year. Candles and torches are supplied! Snakes, bees/wasps, nippy Jack Jumper ants and spiders inhabit the bush in Tasmania and Dolphin Sands is no exception. Scary looking Huntsman spiders are sometimes seen by living spaces, but left alone are harmless. Bush fires are a risk in any part of Tasmania...being at the end of a long beach theres only one road in and out which could be cut off in the event of a fire. We suggest monitoring the Tasmanian Fire Service website for any fire alerts. Fortunately the sea is not far away! Finally, as with any property by the beach, care needs to be taken by the water. The walk to the beach takes a couple of minutes, with a short 2m climb over a sand dune which could be hard for people with mobility limitations. Registration Details DA 2019 255
