Gudauri is a ski resort on the southern slopes of the Caucasus Mountains, 120 km from Tbilisi, and 2196 meters above sea level. Snow cover occurs during a period from November to May. Here weather is calm and sunny. Air temperature in winter is -6°-7°C. In December-April snow cover thickness reaches 2 meters. Infrastructure of ski resort exists from 1986. First comfortable hotel in Gudauri was built in 1988, during the same period first ropeway (Dopelmayer) was established, that conditioned further development of ski resort. Lower station of the ropeway is situated at 1990 meters above sea level, and upper station – at 3307 meters above sea level. Number of tracks is 22; their overall length is 57 km. Tracks are every night rammed by special equipment. 20% of them are meant for professional skiers and 80% - for amateurs. As for the ropeway, it is able to simultaneously transfer 11000 person. If you love such extreme sport as heliskiing and freeride, than Gudauri is excellent choice for you. Besides standard skis, snowboarding, heliskiing and freeride, it is possible to fly on paraplane and hang glider. Skiing from a helicopter (Heliskiing) is possible at 3800 meters above sea level. Main advantages of Gudauri are nonstandard, untrodden places. Professional skiers are provided with slalom, giant slalom and super giant slalom runs, which have FIS certificate. Skiing tracks are equipped in compliance with the world standards. Difference of elevations ranges within 1000 meters. Skiing school for children is working in Gudauri. It’s possible to hire an instructor and rent equipment on the site. Gudauri is not less interesting in summer. Fresh mountainous air, untouched nature, footways, horse and bike routes, tours with helicopter, fishing in mountainous rivers, rafting, etc. make this area attractive for tourists in summer too.
