Vakthusøya - Nybryggen - on a small island

Vakthusøya is an island, about 150 meters from Henningsvær, where you use a small motorboat for access. Parking is about 100 meters from the floating jetty with boat. Nybryggen is the place if you like an authentic place on an island, very quiet and at the same time a few minutes' drive from the famous fishing community Henningsvær. The apartment is located in an original row house jetty, has views and is an excellent starting point for all activities in the area. The space Henningsvær is in the heart of Lofoten - and for us, Vakthusøya is the heart of Henningsvær. Great-grandfather received a deed on the island in 1895 and started a fishery, where fish were bought and processed in all variants - fresh, salted and smoked fish were the products, in addition to cod liver oil and other by-products. My great-grandfather won a prize in Paris in 1905 for the best medicinal cod liver oil! The island was inhabited until 1962, when my grandfather and grandmother moved to Henningsvær as transportation made it easier. After this, the island has been used as a holiday resort, although until the end of the 1970s it was used to dry fish. The island has Kontorbrygge, Nybrygge, Trandamperi and the Shop - as well as 2 residential houses for the family. In total, we have 19 beds divided between Kontorbryggen (8), Gammelgården (6) and Nybryggen (5), these are rarely rented at the same time - all are available on Airbnb, remember to limit the search to the number of beds for each house. Here you can, if desired, gather the extended family or other grouping for a unique get-together in sheltered surroundings. We can't guarantee good weather in Lofoten, but we can guarantee that you will have a place to stay that you will not forget. Guest access Nybryggen is the jetty from around 1945 where there were rowing boats and salt fish production on the quay, and was furnished with an apartment around 1985 with an adjacent terrace and the island as a patio. The apartment has a floor area of about 55 m2, decorated in a simple but cozy style. There are 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with 3 beds, on each side of the bathroom. Right outside the apartment there is a large room with several tables and benches, this has been used for gatherings and works well with both a few and many people if you want to gather in a rowing house environment. We have collected a number of photographs from Henningsvær and the island in addition to old objects from the operation of the island, so that you get an insight into a bygone time. There are two private residential houses on the island with a garden where regular neighborly considerations apply, otherwise you can freely explore the island with, among other things, the sea side, Storhaugen with 360 degree views, the south headland with fishing and swimming area, as well as many other nice places. Other things to note Details of the apartment: ================ General: The house is not insulated internally, so it is relatively quiet between the floors - you will therefore hear if gates are opened/closed on the quay level. Exterior doors: Please keep the doors closed to prevent flies from entering and heat from escaping (during colder periods). Indoor: Outdoor shoes are not to be used indoors. Bring your own wool socks or slippers. Windows: Make sure windows are closed when you leave the island and rain or a lot of wind is forecasted. Washing machine: A washing machine is available in another building. Garden chairs: Foldable chairs can be placed on the terrace/garden or at the kitchen entrance (for morning sun). In case of a lot of wind, the chairs must be folded. Use of boat: ========= You take the boat to and from Henningsvær yourself, the crossing itself takes 2-3 minutes with the use of a motor. You can also row if you like, it might take 5 minutes We have life jackets, and of course we will help you initially and along the way if needed. Note that there is a large difference in high water (over 3 meters), so if you place the boat incorrectly and are away from it for a while, you risk it hanging in the air or sinking under a quay. Therefore, dock at the designated floating jetty when you are in Henningsvær, and place it on a tow rope when you are on the island. We can show you this and the simple knot you often use to attach the boat. The boat shall not be docked in places other than those designated, or used for anything other than transport to and from the island without written consent. Camping on the island =========== We sometimes get questions about bringing more guests in tents. To ensure a good experience for all guests, we unfortunately do not allow camping in the area around the rental house. The house is only designed for up to five people, with one bathroom and one kitchen. Experience shows that guests staying in tents will often use the facilities in the house during the day, and this quickly leads to overloading of both sanitary and kitchen capacity. We want everyone who rents with us to have a comfortable and hassle-free stay, and therefore we must stick to the limit of six people in total – both in the house and in the surrounding area.
