Other things to note PARKING INFORMATION Calella is a small and traditional village, with narrow streets of unique meaning and a large pedestrian area in the center, so getting around by car can be tricky if not known. The apartment is located in a pedestrian area right in the center, between the church and the beach of the Port Bo. It is not possible to reach the gate by car, but there is a loading/unloading area very close by, in the church (parking prohibited). The nearest area for free parking on the street is around the pharmacy (c/Villaamil). It is easy to find parking from Monday to Thursday between November and March, with the exception of holidays and school holidays. The rest of the year can be tricky to find a free space nearby, especially between June and September or on the weekends of April, May and October. If you - please do not follow the GPS to the end because the street is cobbled and with steps. Avoid the end of Chopitea street because at the beginning of the pedestrian zone there is a signposted camera (€200 fine). I recommend going down the parallel street above, the Rambla of President Tarradellas, which will take you directly to the church or pharmacy. The only public parking in the village opens only in peak season. It is located at c/Chopitea 29, about 350 meters from the apartment and has 24-hour surveillance. TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION If you are coming from Barcelona airport, between landing time and check-in time you should count between about 3h and 5h. It all depends on if it is a day with traffic holdings (usually high season, weekends and holidays), if you have to wait for luggage, if the car rental company is fast, if you have to eat, if it is difficult to find parking... There is only one highway connecting Barcelona and France, AP-7. You have to take exit 9A direction Palamós, cross Palafrugell and take the road going to Llafranc/Calella. If you land in Girona, the only option from the airport is a taxi (about €100) or go first to Girona city and there take a bus to Palafrugell. Anyway, in September 2024 all buses were removed between Palafrugell and Calella station. Now there is only one regional bus connecting the two ends of the road between Palafrugell and Calella, but without entering the village. A taxi from Palafrugell to Calella usually cost about 25€. If you come from Girona (1h) or Barcelona (Terminal 1, Terminal 2 or North Station) you also have direct buses to Palafrugell, they take about 3 hours. Once here, unfortunately public transportation is virtually non-existent and unreliable. If you would like to rent a car, please check if you need your international driver's license. It is only a bureaucratic procedure, but essential for most tourists from outside the European Union. If you want to visit the Cost Brava center well, either the coast or inland villages, you need to have a car. If instead your intention is to stay basically in Calella and maybe a day stroll to Llafranc or the Golfet or even take longer walks or a day going to Palafrugell or take a taxi to visit some nearby villages, then the car here will make you more than service. .
