Hermanus River Farmhouse

This historic farmhouse, 100 km from Cape Town, is on a working farm which includes a mountainside, meadows and a lagoon front. Rich in ambiance and character, the house is ideal for families who wish to experience farm life while also being close to the attractions of Hermanus and Kleinmond. The space The greatest splendor of this old farmhouse is the visual atmosphere, both from the old world farming environment with meadows and poplar groves, as well as from large main room with its wood beamed ceiling, it's generous fireplace and comfortable seating arrangements. This room welcomes activities like reading from a library shelf, playing favorite games and, of course, long conversations by the fireside. A veranda stretches all along the front of the house and takes in a wonderful view of the surrounding Overberg landscape, famous for its soft suffused light. Two bedrooms with double beds provide intimate space. Two further inter leading rooms have two single and two bunk beds for an extended group ( six extra beds in all). Two bathrooms with generous showers are at each end of the house. A well equipped kitchen is suitable for small and medium group size catering in a cosy atmosphere. This opens onto a patio which can also be used for outside cooking. Guest access Guests have access to the grounds of this 350 hectare farm which encompasses meadows grazed by a herd of fifty Aberdeen Angus cattle, the mountainside which borders on the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, as well as the lagoon side with a jetty for swimming purposes. A map of the farm is provided. Surrounding farms sport mountain bike trails. All these areas may be accessed on foot or by bicycle but maynot be used as a 4 by 4 trail. Hermanus and the Hemel and Aarde Valley are less than 30 km from the farm, Kleinmond is 10 km away and wine estates like Beaumont and Gabrielskloof are equally close. Other things to note This farm is for those who enjoy a rare and authentic atmosphere an old house set to in a farm atmosphere. It is not replete with modern conveniences, technological distractions and its age and character has not been sanitized away. Our water comes from the Kogelberg biosphere where there are no human habitations. It is untreated and coloured by the tannins and oxides from the soil and vegetation in this area. It is safe to drink and contains no bacterial contaminants. Over the years the farm and its surrounds has never failed to charm its many visitors!
