Old Bicycle Shop - Budget Double or Triple room
We are fantastically well located in the centre of Reykjavik 101, warm, cozy and welcoming. All Reykjavik’s main attractions, including her best restaurants, bars, cafes and shops are within a stone´s throw. We have come home to Reykjavik to raise our family and know the city, its language and culture intimately. We love it here. We love Airbnb too – we seem to attract incredibly friendly and inquisitive guests of all ages, be they single travelers, couples, families or groups of friends. The space The house is a traditional timber built Icelandic house, warm and snug throughout the year as heated with Iceland’s famous hydro-thermic hot water. This room is downstairs and can be made up as a a double for a couple or as two singles. All our guests have access to several shared bathrooms, two sitting rooms, and to a kitchen which can be used for heating up food and snacks but not for cooking full meals. We do not offer breakfast for the very good reasons that we are not licenced to serve food and there are so many excellent bakeries and coffee houses so locally; these open very early. Our house itself is quite well known, and is listed. It was a bicycle shop for fifty years, the first of these in Iceland, and as such it is much loved in Reykjavik, especially by people who bought their first bike here a generation ago. Everything is around the corner. All the Reykjavik attractions, the old harbour, Harpa Concert Hall, Hallgrimskirkja church with its panoramic views, the city swimming pool with hot tubs and steam bath, and many others are all within five to seven minutes’ walk. The central bus station BSI is a 10 min walk . Guest access Your private bedroom, two shared sitting rooms, kitchen, and dining room. There are three shared bathrooms solely for the use of guests. There is a back yard with attractive golden rowan trees in it which is a nice aspect out of the windows, but this is part of our family space and not part of the guesthouse strictly speaking. During your stay I am half English / half Icelandic, born and bred in Reykjavik, and am native in both languages. This is my home as I grew a couple of hundred meters away in Njalsgata street. My husband is English. We live adjacent to the guesthouse so can be on hand to advise and chat, or indeed be as discreet as our guests wish. When we are not in residence ourselves one or other of our three adult children are usually based at home. Other things to note Be in touch before you travel to allow us to help you have the best possible experience of Iceland. Once you book I would be happy to send you a list of tips and suggestions and you will have access to our ‘guidebook’ on the app. Reykjavik is served by hydro-thermally heated hot water. Our hot water is hot and plentiful therefore and each bedroom has a radiator with an adjustable regulator. Don't be cold. Turn your radiator up if you wish. As we said earlier, ours is a traditional timber framed house. It flexes and breathes, is quick to warm up and quick to cool. It is not insulated for sound as modern homes are. If you are a very light sleeper indeed and are used to living in a concrete block, you may be disturbed by this. A bit of common sense and respect for others, especially in the middle of the night, usually means that all but those with real sleeping issues sleep blissfully well here. The beds are very comfortable. Registration number Malsnr. 0441-041-2015-0607
